The club was incredibly loud that night, booming with guests and music. Loki and River were keeping up well with the bar orders, but Koharu was getting on River's last nerves, hitting on every remotely attractive man to walk into the bar that evening. Loki, who was working diligently, was being watched. River had noted that, throughout the whole night, UKwon stood not too far away from the bar, staring at Loki, and every person she handed a drink to. He would look away for short periods of time, as if trying to talk himself out of staring, but failing miserably as he looked back every single time.
It made River laugh.
"Babe!" A voice called, and all three bartenders turned. Akito was standing near the break room doors, and nodded his head towards them, gesturing for River to follow him. He began pushing his way through.
Immediately, River shot towards him, pulling him out of the break room and into the bar. "Don't go back there. It hasn't been cleaned and I think Hee-Bong got sick somewhere back there, it kind of stinks." She said, shaking her head. Her heart was hammering. All of the party supplies was back there, since they were setting up early the following morning. "Let's go talk outside," She said, turning. "I need some fresh air anyways."
She held his hand in hers and led him out of the bar, pushing easily through throngs of people as she did so. River pushed open the bar doors and walked out onto the sidewalk with Akito, turning to face her boyfriend and smiling. "Hey," She said with a slightly laugh. "How are you today?"
He smiled, pushing her hair behind her ear. "Wonderful. And I think I'm about to make your day ten times better."
"How so?" River asked, wrapping her arms around his torso and pressing herself against his chest.
His hands ran down her back, sending a chill down her spine, and resting just on her hips. "Well," He said, kissing the top of her head. "I met someone tonight." River stiffened. "It's not like that. He's-"
"He?"
"River, please." He said, pulling her away from his chest. "He's an MMA fighter, he's the owner of a gym not too far away from here, and he wants to meet you," Akito said, tilting her face so she was looking up at him. "Now."
River's face lit up. "Oh my god are you serious?" She asked, pulling away from him. "Where? In the club? Oh my god, it's been so long since I've been in the gym I-"
"Come on, I'll go introduce you guys." He said, reaching for River's hand. As he led her towards the club, she used her free hand to text Loki and tell her that she was going to be taking her break because there was someone important that she needed to talk to. She knew Loki would understand. She always did. "Last I saw him, he was beside the DJ booth, I can't promise he still is, but we'll find him," He said, opening the door and leading her inside.
Since they had walked outside, the music had seemed to increase in volume. River couldn't really explain it, it just sounded louder. Maybe because she'd walked away from it for a bit.
Akito pulled her towards the DJ booth and looked around. "I don't see him."
River's heart was floundering. "He's got to be here somewhere!" She shouted over the music.
Akito nodded. "I think he was going to get a drink." He said, tugging her towards the bar. He stopped just shy of it and looked around. Suddenly, his eyes grew wide. "There!" He shouted over Kyu Ree's mix, and River turned. She couldn't see anything in the booth, but a hand which had a ring on it.
The ring of the Blackwell family.
River knew who Akito was bringing her towards, and she knew how this was going to end. The only person who could be wearing that ring was someone River had looked up to, and had known very well.
