It had been about a week and four days since we left Earth and all I have done is hang out with Ridge and Rory, sit in my room, and take classes to prepare us for Novelta. I also have figured out why that one wall wasn't painted... it was a massive screen that when turned on shows a once live feed of different things and places on Earth. It was nice but also reminded me of how I would never see any of those things again.
The classes were a good way to occupy my otherwise empty schedule. Most of my classes revolved around my chosen job. There are five classes during the day but I only managed to get four (which I'm not complaining about). I only have two classes with Ridge and one with Rory. Ridge has Basic Survival too but we don't have it at the same time.
Ridge and I sit at a table with this guy named Leslie and this kind of oddly familiar girl named Shard in Plants and Medicines. Ridge and Leslie are getting pretty close and they hang out a lot. Rory has a new 'guy friend' that I haven't even been introduced to yet but she spends a lot of time with him. I haven't really made many friends and none I have made are really close with me. Surge and I text sometimes but I don't really make a habit of it. The ship has phone signal on it mainly to help the crew communicate, but we can use it as well.
As I was walking to my Biology B class I remembered we were switching seats today.
"Finally!" I said a little louder than I had meant to.
"What's got you so excited?"
I turned to see a guy I recognized from my class staring at me. He looked to be about six foot one or so and I had to look up to see his face. He had jet black hair that was a little longer at the top so that he had bangs that partially covered his left eye. He had blue eyes that reminded me of the deep blue color of the ocean.
I remembered he had said something next to me. I refocused and saw he was looking at me expectantly.
"Oh well you see we are changing seats in class today and I don't exactly like the girl I sit next to." As I said this I realized I hadn't even bothered to learn her name.
"Oh yeah I had completely forgot..." he replied.
"Yeah." We continued to walk to class in silence.
About five minutes into class Mrs. Pierce told everyone to grab their things to change seats. I listened until my name was called and so was someone else's but I hadn't quite heard it. On my way to my new seat I saw the guy from the hall sitting in the seat next to mine.
"Sorry I forgot to introduce myself in the hall but I'm Fane." he said as I sat down.
"Hi I'm Allie, which I also forgot to mention in the hall."
"So do you like this seat better than the old one?" he asked, he really was curious.
"Well I know more about you than the other girl and all you've told me so far is your name." I replied. All he did was laugh as he turned to get his stuff for class.
As we were all packing up Fane gave me a piece of folded up paper.
"What is this?"
"Test me sometime." He smiled and walked away. Since it was my last class of the day I headed back to my room. I was the only one home because everyone else still had classes. I unfolded the paper and it had a number and a message on it. "call or text me, whichever you prefer (:" it read. I decided to wait until fifth hour was over just in case he had one.
I watched TV for the hour and a half and then decided to call. It rang three tiems before a girl picked it up.
"Hello?" she said. I wasn't sure why a girl had picked up.
"Hello is this Fane?" I decided to ask anyway.
"No this is is mother, wh..." was all she got out before I heard the phone being taken away from her and a male voice ask, "Mom how many times do I have to tell you to leave my phone alone?!"
"It was riniging and you had just gone into the bathroom so I answered it." she repied. I couldn't help bite back the laugh that had escaped at what I had just heard. He must have heard it because I heard him ask who was on the phone.
"I don't know you took it before I could ask," she replied.
"Who is this?" he asked me.
"This is Allie, who is this?"
"Oh hi Allie it's Fane." he responded. I was relieved he hadn't given me a fake number.
"Why didn't you just text me?" he asked.
"I wanted to make sure you didn't give me a fake number," I laughed, "but I see I should have just texted you anyway..." I said only half joking.
"Probably 'cause if you had you wouldn't have had to hear that last bit between me and my mom." He sounded somewhat embarrassed.
"Oh well." I laughed again.
We talked for another half hour about everything, our old lives, our new lives, 'school', and I found out he didn't have a fifth hour either.
"So do you want to grab something to eat tomorrow after class?" he asked me, somewhat nervous.
"Sure, well I have to go for dinner but I'll text you later."
"Okay bye." I couldn't help the smile on my face as I walked out of my room and to the dining area in our room.
"What's got you so happy?" Ridge asked as I walked into the room. I decided not to tell him just yet.
"Oh nothing," I said as my smile got bigger.
