I completely forgot where I was when I woke up, and in my stupor I punched the wall. Now there’s a little dent in it and my knuckles are a bloody mess. Sighing, I slowly got dressed. No classes today, it’s Christmas Eve, I’m not a huge fan of Christmas, my dad never let me celebrate it. I never found out what religion he was but I knew it came from Japan. I looked around the room a bored expression on my face. It’s gonna be really uneventful for the next week or so. Well, at least until New Years. The ship’s having a big party and then I have some… plans.
I eventually decided to go get some breakfast in the cafeteria. Not many people were there today. They’re probably all sleeping in or at least having breakfast at home. After grabbing some cold cereal and a milk I sat down in a corner table and started eating. It was just about done when I saw Ridge walk in by himself. He looked… Christmassy. He had on (a rather tacky) red sweater with spots of green here and there. I smirked and finished off my milk. As I was walking out he was him the hallway. I tried to walk by him quickly but he stopped me.
“Merry Christmas Eve!” he said in a voice that sounded fake.
“Er, yeah…” I replied. He looked troubled, but smiled.
“What are you doing for Christmas?” he asked. I sighed.
“I don’t celebrate Christmas.”
“Not at all?”
“No.”
He looked at me. When it was obvious I wasn’t going to say anything else he mumbled, “Well bye then…”
“Bye.” I mumbled, then we started walking the same way… fail. He smiled awkwardly.
“Where’s your room?” he asked.
“Third floor,” I said, not intention of telling him my room number in case he happened to know the girl whose it used to be.
“Oh…” He slowed and started to turn around a corner, but his sleeve caught on something. I stifled a giggle that would have been really out of character for me, and tried to help him. After about thirty seconds of awkwardness I said screw it and pulled out my knife. He looked alarmed for a moment as I cut him free. I looked at his sleeve, then back at me.
“Why do you have a-”
“Don’t worry about it.” I snapped.
“Okay… Bye then.”
“Bye.” I quickly started walking down the hall, when I realized I was going the wrong way. I didn’t stop, simply kept moving as I cursed. That whole thing could’ve been avoided…
Eventually I came to a room that said “Files” on the door. Curious, I slid in. No one was in there, so I locked the door behind me. It wasn’t a very interesting room, just well… files. They were all arranged in alphabetical order, I wonder…
I walked over to the S’s, looking for my last name. Sure enough, there it was, only it wasn’t under my name, it was under my father’s. I grabbed the file and opened it, my heart pounding. After scanning through the papers I stopped on one. I couldn’t breathe as I read it. It said “TERMINATED” in bright red letters. I read on, feeling numb.
“Due to certain unlawful circumstances, Kai Sneider will not be boarding the ship, and to prevent information from leaking he will be terminated by authorization of Prof. Waters.”
Waters… Mr. Waters… “He was to board with his daughter, but she is to stay on Earth. No one is to contact her in any way, shape, or form.”
No. No one tell me my dad is dead. That they killed him. No, why should I know?
“Instead, she will be replaced by Prof. Water’s family.”
I stopped reading. I didn’t cry, I had figured my dad to be dead long ago… but to know who caused it… I heard something drip. Looking down I say I had dug my nails into my palms and blood was oozing out. Mr. Waters… he did this. He is why my dad is gone… he is why I’ll never have a family.
“Mr. Waters…” I whisper, “I will kill you for what you did to me… I’ll kill you…” A guard suddenly appeared.
“Hey you, you’re not supp-”
Turning in a flash I kick him in the stomach. He flies across the room and his head slams against the cabinet. He is still. He’s not dead, but I don’t feel the need to kill him. Instead I put the file away, and walk out of the room, vowing to avenge my father’s death.
