I never really was that quiet. Well, my dad said it helped call the sheep in for the night. My name is Surge. I'm a farm boy with strong arms and strong lungs. I spend most of my time with my sheep. My family has a large flock of about 250 sheep. We are one of the country's multiple suppliers of meat and my dad is also the president of the WFPD (World's Food Product Distributors) which helps rank my family high in the government.
My family was small, just me and my father. My mom passed away many years ago in a car accident. Some people say I look just like my dad, dark brown hair and bright green eyes have always run in the family.
Family, a thing I have always depended on. That and my sheep Jardan, the one sheep that I would never let my parents kill after five years of life. (After a sheep lives five years they can no longer graze in fields because their teeth are too dull, they have to depend on grain and hay from their owner.)
Jardan and I are best friends. She is old now, about ten. I fell in love with the first black sheep I'd ever seen. She is special different and I love her.
One night after calling the sheep in the barn for the night I overheard my father on the phone filling out a big lamb order. I wondered what it was for. I was tired though and didn't question it. I went straight to bed.
The next morning I woke up, fed Jardan, and went back into the house. In the house I saw my dad sitting at the table with dark circles under his eyes.
"What's going on, Dad?" I asked slowly. My dad raised his head from his half slumber.
"Pack your bags now. " He mumbled. I was confused.
"Why?" I asked. Then my dad seemed worried even more than before.
"The world is coming to its end and we need to get on a ship right now before we explode."
I've never questioned my dad so I did what I was told, got everything together and realized... Jardan can't come. Only me and Dad. I took the collections of pictures I had taken of her and headed to the car.
When I got to the car I realized that I need to say goodbye for myself and her.
So I ran to her as fast I could, hugged her tight as she nibbled on my hair. I gave her a last hug, kissed her, and in my everlasting whimper said goodbye, forever.
