It’s been a little after two months since my father’s death and life has gotten easier. I’m no longer depressed, angry, or sad. All I think is positive for the most part.
Everything happens for a reason is what I keep telling myself. Ridge and I have started talking again although we’re nowhere near as close as we used to be, which does somewhat make me a little sad I guess.
He told me he got accepted to be an apprentice for one of the first people on Novelta. That’s mainly when I decided to let it all go, that I could lose him. He told me he’s also in the same group as Shard, the mysterious girl who seems all too familiar. I don’t know her that well or trust her that much, she gives me this weird feeling, but I decided not to tell Ridge.
I don’t think he’s talked to mom about it yet, but he avoids the question every time I ask it. I personally think he’s a little reluctant to do it because she would disapprove, but it’s not like she can do much about it, he’s already been accepted and said yes.
Fane also wants to be an apprentice but he won’t talk to me about whether he got accepted or not, I don’t know if he’s avoiding it because he’s embarrassed that he didn’t or is worried that I might worry if he did. Either way I intend to find out.
‘Can you meet me somewhere soon? We need to talk.’ I texted Fane. It took him a couple seconds to respond.
‘You’re breaking up with me are you?’ he asked me.
I laughed at his paranoia.
‘No I just need to talk to you lol’
‘Okay my cabin 10 minutes(:’
Ten minutes later I arrived at Fane’s cabin. I knocked on the door and waited about five minutes until I got tired of waiting and started walking back to mine.
When I got there was a large bouquet sitting outside the door. So naturally I picked up the card and saw that it was to me from Fane.
‘Sorry something important came up a couple of minutes after we finished texting that I couldn’t miss, so I went and picked some flowers and waited till you left to put them at the door. I knew you wouldn’t wait long after you knocked, a couple of minutes at the most. I didn’t have any time for questions, after this is over I’ll come to your cabin and you can ask me anything you want.
-Love you, Fane’
I picked up the flowers smiling and went inside to put them in a vase of water. Ridge was watching TV when I walked in. I got a vase, filled it half with water, and put the flowers in it. I then went over to sit by Ridge.
“Were those from Fane?” Ridge asked me.
“Yeah, he left them as an ‘apology’ for having to ditch before we could talk,” I answered smiling.
“Hey Allie can I ask you a question, no matter how embarrassing?”
“Duh Ridge you’re my brother!” I playfully punched him in the arm but he looked dead serious.
“Have you and Fane, you know, done the deed?” he asked me seriously curious but his cheeks were pink.
I could feel mine heat up too. “Ugh! No! Definitely not, we’ve kissed a couple of times but that’s it.” I answered somewhat shocked he would even ask me it at all. “I can’t believe you would ask me that!”
“It’s a serious question Allie!” Ridge said but he was already laughing.
“Yeah seriously ridiculous!” I said in between laughs.
We sat around joking for another half an hour and that’s how we were when I heard a knock on the door.
“That’s probably Fane,” I say.
“Yeah, yeah I get it,” Ridge said with a wink as he walked into his room.
“That’s not funny Ridge Waters!” I yell just as he shuts his door and I open the front door.
“Did I interrupt something?” Fane asks me with a smile.
“As a matter of fact you did.”
“Ha. Ha. So what did you want to talk about?”
I led him to the couch and wondered how to approach asking him, but my mouth doesn’t wait for my brain.
“Did you make it as an apprentice or not, and no avoiding the question,” I just blurt out…
He just sort of stares at me for awhile.
“Well that’s not what I expected,” he said after awhile.
“So..?” I asked, scared of the answer.
“Yes, Allie I made it…” he said and looked at me.
