A series of gun shots rang through the air. Before my very eyes two people fell, dead on the floor. One, my mother, who had jumped in front of the president's body to save her from the bullet that was headed towards her. Second, the man who shot at the president, but was shot by the president at the same time.
It happened so quickly I hardly could process it. We all sat there stunned for about five seconds before I broke the trance and started racing towards the unmoving form of my mother. My father met me halfway and picked me up and carried me out of the room. That was the last time I saw my mother.
It's been over a year since that night. My father and I have been sober. We never talk about that night. We never talk about much actually. Have you ever had a bond like that? Where you and someone else are so close you don't even have to talk to share the same thoughts or do the same things?
My mother was an eccentric person. She had short red hair and emerald green eyes. It's very uncommon to look like that. My mother's parents had been high up in the government and used a medicine that was supposed to safely deliver twins. My mother was born but her brother was too premature to live. The side affect of the medicine was the way she looked.
When she had me her genes basically killed all of the ones I should have gotten from my dad, so I looked exactly like her. And when I have a child, the same thing will happen. We'll be raising a population of weird looking people. Woohoo. As if I'm not teased enough for the way I look.
I've taken to wearing hoodies to hide my hair and eyes. The less noticeable I am the more normal I am, and that's all I want.
I don't want to go on the mission to Novelta but I don't really have a choice. Ruski is dying. My dad won't let me stay home but he also refuses to go because the government doesn't like him. So I have to leave my dad, my best friend, behind.
We aren't coming back, I'll be on it alone except for my two friends Allie and Ridge. I don't even know if they know they are going but the topic has been forbidden for discussion. I guess we'll see how things turn out.
