AGGRESSIVE LOVER: ONE

"HAPPY FIFTEENTH birthday, Anurak!" sabay-sabay na bati ng mga bisitang nasa loob ng restaurant.

Anurak had to flash his smile in order to please his parents. 'Yun naman kasi ang kailangan niyang siguraduhin, na laging gawin ang gusto ng mga magulang niya. He's a perfect son after all.

"Khob khun ka." Thank you. Anurak smiled brightly and bowed.

The guests clapped their hands and proceeded to the program of his birthday. Umupo na rin naman siya sa assigned seat niya na nasa pinakaharap at gitnang pwesto ng kwartong 'yun.

Sa dinami-daming tao sa kwartong iyon, Anurak still felt lonely as ever. Being an only child meant that he had to do every single thing that his parents wanted. He's the successor, the only heir of the Saetang Construction Companies around the world.

Kung iisipin, fifteen years old and yet, they are expecting a lot from him. He had troubles having friends as well, since bantay sarado siya ng pamilya niya. And not only that, at a very young age, his parents already introduced him to some fine girls his age. Ang bata ko pa tapos love life agad ang iniintindi ng mga magulang ko. Napailing na lang si Anurak.

Anyways, since he's an only child, without friends, and his parents are working hard, he grew up with nannies and bodyguards beside him. Kaya niya rin natutunan ang lengwahe ng mga Pilipino. His main nanny was a Filipina at ang asawa naman nito ay isa sa mga bodyguard na nakabantay sa kanya. Basically, they were his second parents.

Unfortunately, ngayong kaarawan niya ay wala ang dalawa. Nagkaroon kasi ng emergency sa pamilya nitong nasa Pilipinas. His parents were kind enough to let those two go. Kaya naman ganoon na lamang ang lungkot na nararamdaman ni Anurak but still, he had to hide that sadness.

"S̄uk̄hs̄ạnt̒ wạn keid, Anurak," Happy birthday, Anurak, bati ng kamag-anak ata niya. Kahit siya ay hindi niya sigurado. Madalang niya lang kasi makita ang mga ito kaya hindi niya talaga ganoon kakilala.

"Narae, give your gift to your cousin," a Korean woman told her daughter.

Napatingin naman si Anurak sa babaeng halatang mas bata sa kanya. The little girl had fair skin, black wavy hair, and brown eyes. He saw her tighten her grip on her mother's arm and was slightly trembling while hiding on its back.

The woman, who Anurak assumed was his aunt, caressed the little girl's head, probably to calm her down before softly speaking, "It's alright, Narae. Your cousin Anurak is kind."

And once again, Anurak would like to praise himself for making another person believe that he is kind.

Anurak left his chair and slowly walked toward the little girl before he knelt down on one knee to match her height as he smiled. "Hey, little cuz." He glanced at the wrapped box that she was holding. "Is that for me?" The little girl looked at her mother first who smiled back before looking back at him and nodding. "Aww. That's so sweet. Thank you, Narae."

Nahihiyang inabot ni Narae ang box at nang matanggap ito ni Anurak ay nagtago na naman ito sa likod ng ina. The woman softly smiled at her daughter's gesture before looking at him. "I'm sorry on behalf of Narae."

Tumayo naman na si Anurak saka ngumiti sa tita niya. "That's fine. I was also a shy little kid back then. I know what she feels." Bahagyang inangat niya ang kamay na may hawak ng regalo. "By the way, thank you for this gift, Auntie."

The woman smiled. "It's your birthday. Have fun." And the woman bid goodbye and left together with her daughter.

Hanggang sa matapos ang selebrasyon ng kaarawan niya ay wala siyang ginawa kundi ang magtago ng pagod sa mga ngiting kailangan niyang ipakita. I mean, I appreciate the party, the gifts, their time, but are they all genuine?

Anurak let out a sigh and roamed his eyes around the restaurant, only to stop at his little cousin who was staring at him. He gave her a smile and as expected, she hid. Even my cousins don't wanna get close to me. Anurak sadly thought. I just hope that one day, I'll have someone to get comfortable with. Since my parents don't wanna have a second child.

When the guests were finally leaving the party one by one, Anurak noticed his parents talking to the Korean woman. And of course, the little girl was still clinging to her mom. Nakita naman niyang lumingon sa kanya ang nanay niya saka sinenyasan siyang lumapit. As an obedient child as he should be, he walked towards them with a smile.

"Anyways, as I was saying, we will be glad to welcome little Narae to our home while you're both away," rinig ni Anurak na sabi ng ama niya.

Napatingin naman siya sa pinsan niyang nakatago sa likod ng tiyahin niya. She's gonna stay at our house? For the first time since this morning, Anurak's smile became genuine.

"Our Anurak here has been wanting a little sister, but since we can't give that to him due to our busy schedule, it would be a great idea if his cousin would be with him," Anurak's mom said.

His aunt seemed pleased with his parents' response. "That's great news then." Pumantay naman ang babae sa anak nito saka nagsalita, "Narae, sweetheart, you'll be staying with your cousin Anurak, okay? Be a good girl."

Then his cousin finally talked in a soft voice. "B-But Mom..."

"Mommy and Daddy are gonna be away for a while and babies aren't allowed there, sweetheart. Mommy will miss you, but in the meantime, be a good little girl for me, please?" Slowly, Narae nodded. "That's my little girl. Also be nice to your Oppa, hmm?" She nodded once again.

Anurak was just smiling while listening to his relatives' conversation. Basta ang alam niya ay simula noon, hindi na siya magiging mag-isa. He promised himself that he will befriend his cousin and he will protect her like how an older brother protects his little sister.
