ADHARA DIDN'T SO MUCH AS BLINK WHEN PADDED FOOTSTEPS APPROACHED HER FROM BEHIND, ALREADY ANTICIPATING THE ANIMAL'S PRESENCE.
The dog was strange, Adhara will give it that. The way it reacted to her words, ears twitching at her comments as though it understood everything she was saying. Its sudden violent reaction caught her off guard last time, making Adhara wonder if there was more to this dog than she what she could see.
Something she couldn't quite put her finger on but was willing to return to the forest to find out.
She found it rather curious that a stray dog was able to survive the harsh conditions of the forest during the winter. She honestly didn't expect to ever encounter it again after the first time, and yet, here they were.
This time, however, Adhara came prepared. Her letters were neatly tucked away in her pockets, not in her satchel to avoid a repeat of last time's incident.
Her back turned at the dog, she balanced herself on top of a fallen tree trunk with her arms stretched out in either side of her. One foot behind the other, she walked. Last night's rain only managed to dampen the forest floor, all areas too wet for Adhara to sit on. The downpour brought along with it cold breezes that swirled underneath her cardigan, cooling her down to her bones. The cool weather wasn't so uncommon, though, for the highlands, even in summer.
The dog followed her lead, leaping onto the trunk, which rattled it enough to make the Slytherin lose her balance. She bounced off, whirling around to point her wand straight at the animal's snout.
The dog froze.
"Snuffles," she declared. "I've decided to call you Snuffles."
Strange or not, it was still a dog. One Adhara could talk to without any repercussions, so she decided to comply. A mere animal wouldn't expect anything from her, so she could talk to it as much as she could. And either way, it reacted the most when she spoke, thus, if Adhara wanted to figure out what was up with the animal, she would have to speak to it.
"It's a suitable punishment, I believe. It's what you get for that display of yours last time."
The dog visibly relaxed, making Adhara mentally jot down the new reaction. She brought her arm back down, approaching it to stand right in front of it.
"Got detention because of you. Snape had an excuse to have my head. Not that he ever needs one..." She kept her wand in her hand, deciding that having it close was a better idea. She used her free hand to try and pet the dog.
It let her, even leaning into the touch. Snuffles tucked its head in, sniffing her bag.
"I didn't bring any food today."
