Chapter 7
━━━━━━━━ ✥ ━━━━━━━━

PATIENCE WAS A VIRTUE, ONE THE TOM EXCELLED IN. It was what got him far in his life.

Small steps, careful planning, and the right connections. All these things would have been futile had Tom decided to rush.

It was an irritatingly slow process, reaching the top. But it was a very necessary process. All of it paid off in the end, just as Tom had predicted.

For a while, anyway.

Tom had been so close. So close to achieving his goal, acquiring absolute power. Until a seer got in the way and predicted his downfall. No matter how powerful, it seemed as though even Tom was no match for a self-fulfilling prophecy.

But who was Tom if not the man who challenged Death himself? After all, he faced him once before and survived. All thanks to his careful planning and intellect.

Tom was a patient man. He reached the top once before, he can very well do it a second time. He shall gather his servants once again and set up a new era of his rule.

All he had to do was start small and work his way up.

A spider was small, it was the perfect place to start.

After which came a mouse, then a snake. Followed by an owl, and then finally, a cat.

Humans weren't as high in the chain as they liked to believe. Creatures they otherwise assume to be beneath were, in fact, equal to them.

Now, magic. Magic was what made the true distinction. It was what gave them power, indicating the clear separation between those who were truly powerful, and those who were not.

But again, people forget. They believe they are on top when in reality they should be living beneath Tom's feet.

Magic would rid itself of the filth that lived among them, believing themselves to be equal to Tom.

That filth was a weakness. A weakness Tom had no qualms taking advantage of to rise. Rise like the sun overhead and shine light onto the perfect world that he will create.

The human, Bertha Jorkin, was a witch, however. A witch with a weak mind, though. Thus, Tom should have no issues killing her.

A small price to pay for the greater good.

Just another small step. And then he shall take another, then another, until he reaches greatness once more.

After a few days being sentenced to bed rest, Adhara was finally allowed to leave. Well, it was more like she left on her own volition and ignored anyone who told her she should still be resting.

She was still resting, she reasoned. Sitting on the couch in front of the telly wasn't so different from sitting in bed. Besides, the guest bedroom was starting to suffocate her.

Only, she hadn't accounted for her injured hands.

The hot coal that Matron had pressed onto Adhara's hands had hit nerves, and left a slight tremble to her fingers. The first days were the worst. Hermione has to stay with Adhara to help her eat because she couldn't even hold her utensils properly.

And then there was Harry, who didn't leave her side for three entire days, only returning home when Hermione ran out of clothes that fit him. Sirius lingered, too. He usually showed up in the afternoons, but Adhara remained in the guest room. Her uncle was smart enough to leave her alone.
