Chapter 32
━━━━━━━━ ✥ ━━━━━━━━HARRY STRUGGLED AGAINST REMUS' HOLD. When the killing curse left Bellatrix' mouth, they both froze. Sirius, however, didn't. He was already running towards Adhara, even before Bellatrix fired the spell, his intention very clear.
He didn't make it on time.
Somebody else beat him to it.
Harry didn't move. He stood still, one arm still in Remus' hold, his other one free. He watched Adhara, still crouching on the ground, her head tucked under her arms. He watched as his sister slowly brought her head, slowly peeling her eyes open, and shifted her gaze towards the body in front of her.
Then he watched her register who it was. Her eyes widened, her mouth parted, and tears welled in her eyes. Harry watched as Adhara slowly realised that Nymphadora Tonks lay dead in front of her.
Adhara screamed.
Sirius was quick. One second, he was kneeling right beside Tonks, the next, he scooped up his niece in his arms, tucked her head beneath his chin, hiding Tonks from Adhara's sight in the process.
Harry's legs were going weak, and Remus did the same to him.
Harry could hear Bellatrix laughing in the distance. She sounded delighted. She intended to take out one stain of the family but took out another. She had no reason to be upset.
Then, abruptly, the laughter stopped. Curious, Harry pushed Remus away to see what had happened.
"What did you do with the prophecy!?"
━━━
Beside them, on the ground, the globe laid shattered. Adhara must've dropped it when Bellatrix fired the killing curse at her.
She was still curled inwards, probably ignoring Bellatrix. Sirius didn't think Adhara went away. She didn't do that very often, not as much as Harry. Usually, when she did, it had to do with fire, Sirius noticed. It was why they quickly switched to apparating as their main means of transport, and only used the floo when she wasn't in the room.
So, no. Adhara was very present. Her breathing pattern also indicated thus. But she kept her head hunched and didn't look in Bellatrix' direction.
"What did you do!?"
"It's broken Bellatrix," announced Sirius," your precious prophecy is gone."
Right as he said those words, he heard Harry flinch in pain. Sirius whirled towards him and saw Remus watching the boy in concern as he held onto his scar.
Bellatrix had gone still, with what Sirius assumed was fear in her eyes. He didn't think he would ever see his cousin wear such terror.
"No," she started with a whisper, her voice rising slowly, "no, no, no, no, no! NO! You're lying! T'ES UN MENTEUR, SIRIUS!"
Sirius scoffed. "The proof is right there!" He pointed at the broken shards of glass. "It broke when you tried to kill Adhara. It wouldn't have had you decided not prioritise your own personal whims over that of your lord's. How is dear old Voldy going to react to that, chère cousine?"
Bellatrix dropped to her knees, her hands in her hair. She was already begging for mercy. "MASTER — I TRIED, I TRIED — DO NOT PUNISH ME!"
"He knows already," said Harry suddenly. He was also on the ground, one hand covering his scar and one of his eyes, and the other helping him stay upright. Remus was right beside him. "But he can't hear you here! So don't waste your breath!"
