Anyone who knows me knows I was never one for fashion trends or the latest looks. Though this morning, I found myself styling my hair until it was brushed, backcombed, curled, and textured to perfection. My eyes decorated with my signature sunset colours blended seamlessly, making my blue eyes pop. My figure-hugging jeans were always a win, with a fitted top complimented without overkill. Taking one last look, I pondered on why I actually went to all this effort.
Was it a chance to dress up? A subconscious need to feel confident, or was it the conscious need to impress?
A combination of all three, maybe?
Shaking it off, I grabbed my bag, fastening it around my hip and leg, securing it, and checking if I had everything. Spending the rest of my time pacing around my room until the doorbell rang. Bouncing down the stairs with a spring in my step, I opened the door, but my beaming smile immediately faltered when I came to face someone unexpected.
''Guess I wasn't who you were expecting from that reaction.'' Mark sheepishly smiled, looking down.
I didn't answer.
Clearing his throat,'' Bea, I wondered if we could talk?''
''No.'' I firmly stated, looking over his shoulder, seeing Barricade parked up, and began towards him.
Mark followed, reaching out causing me to spin around.
''Don't touch me,'' I warned.
''I don't understand why I'm the only one fighting for this!?'' Reaching out once again as I backed up.
''I said DO NOT TOUCH ME.'' I glared, causing him to wince in rejection.
''What is so complicated for you, Mark, we split up.''
''You never gave us a proper chance, I want that chance, and I'm going to fight for it!'' He exclaimed.
''Your not fighting; you're harassing me.''
''Why can't you just give us a chance?!''
He continued pushing my buttons, begging for my affection, and I was losing my cool. I abruptly found myself backed up against Barricade's side. As Mark tried to get closer, I snapped, this had gone too far, and now I was furious, and I lunged, pushing him back harshly, causing him to stumble over. Momentarily shocked, he composed himself before attempting again to get close until a deep feral growl came from behind me.
''What the hell was that?! A panicked wide-eyed Mark looked around, confused.
''No idea.'' I played dumb, knowing exactly who it was.
''Now you listen to me, and you listen well; you're not appealing to me in any form, intellectually, physically, or sexually. I hold my hands up. I made a mistake, not realizing it sooner, but I couldn't ignore my gut instinct. I couldn't live a lie like that; you don't excite me, tease me, and never make me scream.'' I snarled, seeing him physically shrink as I insult his bedroom skills.
''You know Bea, sometimes you can be too honest.'' He spat, narrowing his gaze at me.
''Yeah, I've been told that on several occasions.''
Suddenly Barricade's engine rumbled to life, startling Mark once again as he looked from me to inside the mustang to Barricade's holoform.
''No one was in this car a moment ago...''
''Must be the California air making you delusional.'' Muttering to him as Barricade's door opened for me to get in.
''What are you doing with him?!'' He stood dismayed.
