As the dust settled around me and the deep rumble of Barricade's engine was no longer audible I fell to my knees bursting into tears as I allowed my fear and stress release from my lungs, screaming and crying as loud as I pleased in the abandoned farm.
I didn't understand anything from the situation, only following my instincts hoping they knew well enough to keep me alive. Barricade's behaviour made no sense and I couldn't place why out of everyone he picked me to play with, his near friendly demeanor was all to lower my guard and trust him enough just get me alone with him but why didn't he follow through the final step?
Slowly but shakily I forced myself off the ground dusting my knees off and began taking a few small steps down the road leading back to the main highway. A cool breeze blew drying my teary eyes, my pulse was pumping and adrenaline rushing through my veins begging to be used, so with each step my pace grew faster until I was at full speed allowing the energy to burn itself off, and I kept up pace until I stopped dead in my tracks at the thought that he could be watching me from afar right now, maybe just waiting for the right moment...
Looking to my left scanning everything in sight then to the right and scanning again, seeing no police car in plain sight but it wasn't enough to convince myself he was somehow invisible to my eyes yet something told me he was far from me now. Steadying my breathing I continued forward, I couldn't stay here and nor did I want to, this break had turned into a nightmare and somehow one of the greatest experiences of my life, who else could say they not only met but had aliens shacking up with them and almost killed several times by one.
Nearing the highway, following the hard shoulder I began the walk back to Tranquility for a car it would take a mere 25 minutes but I welcomed the long hour or so pace of my heavy footsteps. As I walked the air dried the sweat from my body leaving a sticky sickly feeling on my skin, but that was mere annoyance unlike the thoughts in my head, replaying the events in every detail. So lost in my thoughts I failed to even hear the truck pulling up behind me only did a voice grab my attention, turning around to said voice a gentle face greeted me.
''Ma'am are you alright?'' The middle aged man asked, my response was a simple few nods while staying silent, avoiding his gaze.
''What are you doing on the highway? Do you need a lift into the city?'' He offered.
Again I stayed silent taking a step towards his vehicle before stopping when the thought if his offer was genuine ran through my mind, he seemed genuine enough but I was prove that I wasn't the best at reading the intentions of others. He seemed to see my concern.
''It's okay, I have no bad intentions I promise.'' He tried reassure me.
After a few seconds I made my choice and walked towards the truck climbing up the cab and sitting down avoiding the strangers gaze.
''Thank you'' I stammered not wanting to be rude.
For a few minutes we drove in peaceful silence but inwardly my head was screaming at Barricade, at myself and the whole situation. The driver looked to me a few times no doubt looking me over and when I paid attention to the mirror I could see why, my skin was covered in a dust glued to my skin, my face was red and eyes puffy and my hair was everywhere and covered in sweat, lovely.
''If you don't mind me asking what where you doing out here?'' He asked seeming generally concerned.
''Let's just say my judge in character was very out of line.'' I answered sighing meeting his gaze briefly.
''Boyfriend trouble?'' He pried.
''Something like that.'' I agreed rolling my eyes not wanting to go into details of the truth I felt so desperate to tell.
