Monday rolled around soon, way too soon, and I unwillingly found myself back in the same room as I was in forty-eight hours earlier. My mother had gone to discuss things with the doctor while I was checked over, wires and multiple machines beeped reading my vital signs, but just the constant noise was enough to grind my gears.
Over the weekend, I had thought the freedom of being away from the hospital would make everything seem better; still, it only brought me comfort in small doses, otherwise feeling totally useless as normal things were impossible and simple tasks were exhausting. I might be feeling sorry for myself, but the accident's impact was more than I could take in; not even being able to understand how I got into the said situation in the first place was more than I could take. My snuffed cries joined the monitor's beeps as I struggled to control my emotions, letting a few tears fall before concentrating on my breathing to regain some control of myself.
After some time had passed, my focus was drawn to movement in my peripheral vision by the room's glass window. Normally doctors peaked a look now and then checking up on me. I found myself tensing up at the sight of them, sighing heavily, expecting to hear the door opening. I awaited my fate.
However, to my relief, the door never opened, and once I looked again, the doctors had vanished, off to look for another patient; far from being in the mood to talk about the situation, I just wanted to know the next steps.
''Guess what, honey, you're coming home!'' Mum beamed as she came through the door.
''Really?'' I questioned
''I wouldn't tease you with something like that; now your healing, they feel it's best to keep you at home. Isn't that great news.'' She clapped, but her smile faltered upon closer inspection of my face.
''Honey, what's wrong?'' She asked.
''Just scared I was staying here, confused about everything and unable to find answers. Just overwhelmed at the situation.'' I confessed, wiping my red eyes.
''You've been through a lot, and it's to be expected. Do you think we should contact your old therapist? Maybe she could help you through it?''
''Maybe, but give me a little time to decide.'' I smiled faintly.
Weeks had passed, finally recovered enough to leave the house for a few hours; however, according to my mum, I was still fragile, and I found myself sneaking out of the house to escape her.
Quick quick quick, fuck!
I cursed as I jogged to Ayden's car before mum could even get a passing glance. I was practically jumping into the front seat, urgently ushering Ayden to put his foot to the pedal.
''Morning'' He smiled.
''Morning,'' I responded, catching my breath and checking the mirror.
''Think she'll run after you? That'd be pretty funny!'' He giggled.
''Don't even joke about it; she won't even let me do the dishes. At first, it was nice but believe me, and the novelty has all but worn off.'' I explained, relaxing back into the seat.
''You did almost die..'' He looked at me.
''I know that, but I didn't, and it's been a couple of weeks since I came home. I can manage a few plates or a walk around the mall now and then, and she need not wrap me in cotton wool, so please, can we have some fun and let our hair down. Well, mine, as you've lost most of yours'' I shamelessly laughed.
