The afternoons gentle breeze was a welcome to the sun's rays as I sat on a chair in Judy's front garden drink in hand, who was I to decline the offer especially when I get to enjoy the hilarious commentary on Ron's various gardening issues. They had become good friends to our family and it was nice to have them here as caring as they were, it was like having my parents away from parents.
With the sound of the door their son Sam came out keys in hand to his custom faded racing stripes car.
''Hey Sam, how's it going?'' I smiled.
''Hey not bad thanks, you?''
''All good'' I replied.''Now Sam you know what to get, right?'' Judy asked.
''Yeah I have the list mum.'' As he held the paper up.
''Berengaria didn't you say you needed to get some things? Why don't you go with Sam he's got a few chores to do before he can go to a party. There's no point in using your car when you can go up there with him'' Ron stated.
He had a point
''Well if you didn't mind Sam? I only need a few food things.'' I asked.
''Sure, get in'' he invited.
I ran to grab my bag and lock up before getting into the car, it was banged up Camero but it had a certain charm.
The dreaded grocery shopping was said and done in no time and we were on our way back home, Sam had rather alot more shopping than I and without a second thought grabbed some of the bags following him into his house, it was the least I could do for saving me some fuel. Afterwards Sam had finally earned his freedom and I was silently laughing at the interesting conversation of 'family grass' before took off in a cloud of heavy exhaust fumes, I chuckled at Judy's unimpressed expression of her sons first car.
Judy handed me another drink while Mojo the chihuahua sat happily on my lap, quite sometime had passed before a rumble, no that sonorous rumble of an engine drew ever closer until it drew to a stop where it had parked the previous night. In the light of day it was just as impressive in how it looked as how it sounded, I certainly wouldn't complain being behind the wheel. I began to wonder why it was parked up here but thought little of it, it was probably awaiting orders or on the look out for something.
It had been well over an hour and the Police car that hadn't moved, the window was rolled down and I could see the officer in the drivers seat and every so often I would observe him for a few seconds, his gaze seemed hard and quite cold what I couldn't understand was why he was seemingly staring directly at me, and I knew his gaze was only on me and not the others. I could just feel it intensely. Hesitantly I cleared my throat gaining Judy's attention, she caught my gaze and looked toward the direction I was looking at clocking the car.
''Ah the police Ron, must be something going on better inform our neighborhood watch'' she stated as Ron shook his head in agreement.
''Haven't seen anything but don't worry about a thing we'll keep an eye out, probably teenagers up to no good.'' Ron waved before heading in.
''Why don't you come over to ours for dinner tonight sweetie, we haven't seen you for a while and it'd be nice to catch up over some food and of course there's wine'' she invited.
''Well that is an offer I can't refuse, free food and wine. Count me in'' I smiled.
Nightfall had long claimed daylight by the time Judy had given up trying to force feed me anymore, it was delicious and I was fit to burst but content and happy for company every now and then, they were so nice. Saying my thank you and goodbyes I finally made it out the front door and to my surprise the police car was still there, immediately I felt that I was being watched. I stood momentarily trying to 'psych' myself up to approach him. He'd been there for hours and I thought he might at least like a drink or snack but then the feel of his stare made me question my possible actions.
