I walk into school with a new set of determination and confidence. I am going to get into that team whether they like it or not.

I see Kate and Sarah walking together. I wave to them. They smile and call me over.

"Hey guys, are you going to tryout for the girls soccer team?" I ask. They shake their head.

"Na, not a big fan of soccer" Kate says..
"Plus, it's not just a girls team, it's a mixed boy-girl team. Hardly anyone takes girls seriously when it comes to sports in our school. I'm sure loads of girls in our school love soccer, but they never have the guts to try out cause the boys have marked it as 'their team'. Girls who've been coming to this school for years hence steer clear." Sarah adds.

I stop suddenly, shocked. I didn't expect that. I thought this was a girls team, I know nobody would take me seriously since I'm a girl. But.. I have faith in my skill. I'll make the team....hopefully.

At first I consider telling them about how my parents wouldn't let me play soccer, but...I just met them a few days ago so spilling out all my life secrets doesn't seem like the best move....
"Oh.....I wish you guys were, cause I'm planning to try out..um.."

"Wait, really?" Kate says excitedly, " that's awesome! I'm sure you'll make the team. though I've never seen you play-"
"Yeah, I hope so too. You would be the first girl in the team!" Sarah says in the same enthusiasm, "you have to show us how you play one day!".

"Sure!" I reply a bit bashfully. It's nice to know they're supporting me so willingly even though we haven't known each other for long.

We continue talking till the bell rings and we go to our respective classes. I have maths..ugh.
I enter the classroom and take a seat. The class was boring, as usual, so I started thinking of ways I could join soccer without letting my parents know.

"Psst!" I feel someone nudging me. I look over and see a cute boy with green eyes and black hair, he directs my gaze forward. Mrs.Smith was asking me a question. Schist.

"Ava, are you even listening to me?".
I quickly nod. "Good, so can you tell me the answer to this equation?"
I pause. Thankfully, I knew the answer. She raises her eyebrows but nods her approval and continues teaching.

"Thanks" I whisper to the boy sitting next to me. I lean back on my chair glancing at him.
"No problem" he smiles.
"What's your name?" I ask him.
"Cody, you're Ava right?" I nod.
"Nice to meet you Ava" he says with a smile. We chat in hushed tones till the bell rings and I find out I quite enjoy his company. We say our byes and head to our next classes.

The rest of the week passes normally. Or as normal as school can go.
At school, Cody sometimes joined Sarah, Kate and I for lunch and it seemed like I fit in.

On Friday, we sit in the cafeteria together as usual. I contemplate telling them about my issue about not being able to play.
I suppose I could tell them. What's the worst that could happen? I nod to myself and tell them about my parents unwillingness to let me play soccer. At first they're outraged. I calm them down, no matter how angry I was myself.
"It's okay guys I'm used to it.."
"Well just because you're used to it doesn't mean it's right" Kate says.
I shrug. "What can I do?"
Cody gets this mean glint in his eyes. "What are you thinking Cody?" I ask suspiciously.
He smirks and tells us his plan.
I contemplate what he's saying.
It's risky and I could easily get caught, but.... it could actually work.

Thanks for reading! What would u do in Ava's place?
I actually imagine Cody a bit like Asa Butterfield...feel free to ignore me here lol
