Chapter 13 "Singing my Way"

29 12 11

I put on my headphones.  And begin to sing...
I suddenly stop because Cody hadn't started playing the guitar and was gaping at me with his jaw wide open instead. I turn to look at him and put on a sly smile.

"Done gaping at me?" I ask him slyly. He blushes and rubs his neck
"Not my fault you're so good" he mumbles
"What was that?" I ask him trying to hide my grin
"Nothing, let's just start again" he say taking position

"Wait," I say, choosing to cut him some slack. "I totally forgot to give you my revised set of lyrics... I've changed them a bit.. the tune remains the same but I've cut a few para's"
"Don't you think you've given them to me too soon?" He says sarcastically.
"And here I was thinking, I took too long to give them to you" I reply just as sarcastic. I hand him the sheet while he rolls his eyes.

(The revised sheet of lyrics👇)
🎶 Get over yourself, it's no big deal
If I run a little faster than you on the playground
Get over yourself, what's your problem?
What's your problem?
Well if you don't like girls that are stronger than you
And if you don't like girls that are faster than you
And if you don't like girls that are smarter than you
Well then you might not like me, you might not like me

Get over yourself, it's no big deal
If I swim a little faster than you in the neighbour's pool
Get over yourself, what's your problem?
What's your problem?
Well if you don't like girls that are stronger than you
And if you don't like girls that are faster than you
And if you don't like girls that are smarter than you
Well then you might not like me, you might not like me
And if you don't like girls tougher than you
And if you don't like girls more daring than you
And if you don't like girls braver than you
Well then you might not like me, you might not like me
You might not like me
You might not like me
And that's fine by me
You might not like me (might not, might not, might not)
Might not like me

[Changed para:]

Boy, lay down your pride
Don't let your ego soar high
I'll prove you wrong, I'll prove you wrong, I'll prove you wrong, boy
Lay down your pride
Don't let your ego soar so high
I'll prove you wrong, I'll prove you wrong, I'll prove you wrong

[change ends here]

But if you don't like girls that are stronger than you
And if you don't like girls that are faster than you
And if you don't like girls that are smarter than you
Well then you might not like me, you might not like me
And if you don't like girls tougher than you
And if you don't like girls more daring than you
And if you don't like girls braver than you
Well then you might not like me, you might not like me
You might not like me
You might not like me
And that's fine by me
You might not like me
You might not like me (might not, might not, might not)
You might not like me
You might not like me (might not, might not, might not)
You might not like me
You might not like me 🎶

"Hm, well I guess this does sound more like an empowerment song now" Cody says after reading the sheet while running a hand through his black hair.
"Duh, that's why I changed it" I say looking at the lyrics in his hand.
"Well you're in a sassy mood today" He mumbles again hoping I didn't hear him. Too bad I did.
"Of course I am! I'm literally going to be singing anonymously over the internet, without my parents knowing, while defying them and spreading my message!" I say counting on my fingers.
"Great, great, now let's get recording before your parents come back." He says. I jokingly pout but take the sheet from him anyway and ready myself (again).
