Chapter 12 Who am I kidding???

I can't believe I agreed to this! I mean, who was I thinking? It seemed like a good idea when Cody told me about it, but now? I regretting saying yes in the first place.

Let me fill you in.
So, Cody had this 'brilliant' idea, which consisted of me singing anonymously on you tube where people would only hear my voice and the message I want to spread with it. He on the other hand, would play the guitar for the background. Nobody would know who I am, but they would listen to me.....

But.....who the hell am I kidding?! I can't sing online even if my life depended on it!!

"Cody, I can't do this" I say to him. He rolls his eyes as if it were the hundredth time I was saying that to him though it probably was.
"Yes you can Ava" he says once again trying to reassure me.
But, let me tell you, he wasn't doing a really good job in doing that.
"What if my parents find out?" I say this time completely serious.

He looks at me his eyes swirling with an emotion I can't read.
"What?" I ask him. "Nothing" he says shaking his head, "they won't find out, you aren't showing your face remember?"
I hesitate. I'm still skeptical, but eventually agree after a lot more convincing from his side.

"What song do you wanna sing first?" He asks me.
"Might not like me by Brynn Elliot, though I'll change the lyrics a bit" I reply instantly, "I know Mark won't actually know its me, but I want to sing it to him"
He nods understandingly.

"Ava the 3 of us are going to the grocery store, you're not allowed to go anywhere!"
I hear my Dad yell from downstairs. I don't reply. I turn to Cody.

"My Dad is going to come up to check on me, go out the window! Quick! Come back with your guitar in 5 minutes okay?" I say, suddenly aware of the noise of footsteps on the stairs.
"Okay, see ya" He says with a small smile and wave and begins climbing down.
I lie down on my bed and plug in my earphone to make it seem I'm listening to music. I hear the door open and dad enters. I remove my earphones to indicate I'm listening.
He raises his eyebrows at my attitude but doesn't comment  "the 3 of us are going to the grocery store, you're not allowed to go anywhere" he says in a stern voice. I nod my head and put my headphones back in.
He grits his teeth but goes anyway.
Now, I actually do turn on the music and wait for Cody to come back.

Cody's POV

I am such an idiot. I think while pacing the floor of my room. I mean, I just stood there with my mouth gaping at her! Not that I could help it, her voice is amazing!
It's no secret that I kinda like her....but, Ava is just as oblivious as she is strong.
Even Sarah and Kate know, and that's saying something..

Both of them are oblivious idiots themselves.

I pick up my guitar I climb back down. "I'm going back to Ava's, Mom!" I yell. "Okay! come back soon!" She says back.
I walk back to Ava's home which just about 5 blocks away from mine.

I climb back up the tree and knock on her window. She was lying on the bed with her headphones. I could see her slowly whispering the lyrics to herself, with her newly cut hair was surrounding her beautiful face... ok-kay...where did that come from.....?
I shook my head.
I try knocking again and wave my hands trying to catch her attention. She finally opens her eyes and sees me, the surprising thing is, she doesn't look even slightly shocked/scared with me outside her window... I know for a fact that if someone were to do that to me, I would be hella scared.

She comes up, removes her headphones and opens the window. "Hey!" She says.
"Hey yourself," I say with a chuckle, "can I come in?"
She makes way for me to enter. "You could've come from the front door you know, my parents aren't home" she says with a smirk.

I mentally face palm. Why do I have to embarrass myself in front of her?
"Maybe I just like climbing up" I say, trying to act sassy.
She rolls her hazel eyes, "Yeah, sure"

I open my guitar case and play a small tune. I look up and see Ava staring at me intently.
"When did you learn all this?" She asks amazed.
"Around the same time Justin started soccer" I say rubbing my neck.
"Wow!" She says eyes wide, "that's a long time.....Um, Does Justin know about this fiasco by the way?" She asks
"I dunno, I think Mark might've told him though..." I say shrugging
She grits her teeth at the name of Mark.
. "Let's record the video" She says with more determination than before.

I nod and see the chords required to play 'might not like me'. I wish she didn't want it to be a secret, that would have really taught Mark a lesson. The world needs to know the person behind the amazing voice.
I sit on her bed and start playing. "Is this fine?" I ask her.
"Yup" she says nervousness peeking in her voice. "Take a deep breath." I say to her. She wears her headphones and starts.
My jaw drops.
