The room was so silent you could hear a shinobi walk past the door. Boruto stood shock still in the center of it, face devoid of color. Shikamaru shook his head with a sigh, and Naruto and Sasuke stared grimly at their son.

When the young raven finally found his voice again, he asked, "So this was all my fault?"

The Hokage gave him a sad smile. "Of course not Boruto. But I think that there's someone out there who knows about your situation."

"Someone other than the people in the room." Sasuke narrowed his eyes. Boruto gulped, mouth dry as he spoke. "Ok then." Shikamaru raised an eyebrow. "That's it? Ok?"

The boy blinked at him. "What else can I say?" Taken aback, Shikamaru threw Naruto a worried gaze. "I guess you were telling the truth, Naruto. This boy is different from the Boruto I know."

For some reason, that statement made Naruto and Sasuke freeze up. The couple watched solemnly as Shikamaru left the office, stating that he would put together a team to find Kiba as soon as possible.

"What now?" Boruto asked. Naruto looked at the ground, unable to meet his eyes. "Go back to your sister, Boruto."

The boy opened his mouth to protest, but before he could, Sasuke shot him a stern glare. Getting the hint, he walked out the door, shutting it gently behind him.

As soon as their son was gone, Sasuke turned towards Naruto, carefully analyzing his expression. Noticing this, the blonde sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.

"Sasuke." He whispered. "Boruto never uses the door." The raven nodded, and Naruto continued. "Boruto always comes in and out through the window."

Sasuke gulped, walking over to Naruto and encasing him in his arms. "I know." He whispered back. "I know."

Naruto looked sideways at his husband, stating the thoughts they both were thinking. "Sasuke, Boruto is so different now. And it's only been a day." The other man could do nothing but nod.

"Yea, I know." He murmured against Naruto's ear. "I miss the innocence he used to have as well." He slowly pulled back, leaving his hands on Naruto's shoulder.

Cerulean blue eyes stared up at him. "It feels like he's gone."

"In a way, he is."

Naruto nodded. "I know. I just wish he could at least remember our time together." Sasuke nodded. "Me too, Naruto." He placed a kiss on the blonde's forehead. "Me too."

Naruto hummed in content.

Boruto jumped onto his bed, letting out an exhale at the feeling of soft sheets around him. He stared up at the ceiling, thoughts roaming about his mind.

It felt like just yesterday when he was with his parents, going on a mission with them as their friend, as an equal. But in reality it's been a long time since then. And Boruto knows that.

His dad has been his dad his entire life, and Sasuke's always been a father figure to him. It wasn't too overwhelming a change when Sasuke became his dad as well.

Of course, he missed his mom at times, but he took comfort in knowing he could stop by at any time and see her.

But dad and tou-san might not feel the same way. Boruto sighed, shifting onto his side so he was facing the wall. It must be a pretty drastic change, he thought. Having a son only for them to be someone you knew before children even crossed your mind.

He frowned at the wall. His dad has always been his dad, even when they were supposedly the same age. But for dad, I was one of his friends before I was his son.

The boy sighed. And to top it all off I can't remember anything about my life as their son.

"What're you sighing all melancholic like for?" The raven bolted out of his bed, finding himself face to face with his sister. "Oh hey Sarada."

The girl rolled her eyes, seating herself next to Boruto on his bed. "You gonna tell me what all that was about?" The boy blinked at her. "What do you mean?"

"Tou-san. I don't think I've seen him that serious since we pranked him by dying his ANBU outfit hot pink." Boruto's eyes widened. "Seriously?"

Sarada giggled, lightly pushing at his arm. "Oh come on, don't tell me you don't remember that! It was one of our most hilarious pranks yet! Even dad was trying to stifle his laughter."

The boy looked at the smiling girl in awe. "We play pranks together?" She gave him a curious glance. "Yea every week."

"OH!" Sarada jumped to her feet. "Speaking of, we need to meet Inojin to execute our next plan!" Boruto immediately stood up, eyes twinking. "Oh really? What do we have planned?"

Sarada's grin wavered. "What are you talking about? It was your idea in the first place." The boy winced. "Right, sorry. Remind me again?"

She rolled her eyes. "Christmas is coming up, remember? As it is every year, everyone's gathering for a huge party! This time it's at Inojin's house, so we're going to place a jutsu on the mistletoe plant to create some chaos!"

Boruto's mouth formed an 'O' shape. He giggled at the thought of Sasuke finding out what they did. "Tou-san's gonna kill us."

Sarada laughed. "He totally is. But the laugh is worth the risk." She winked at him, before leaving his room. Pausing at his door, she used the doorframe to spin herself around, looking him up and down.

"Get ready, we're meeting Inojin today since training was canceled for most of the rookies." Eyes darkening, she stated, "Himawari's not going to meet us today for obvious reasons."

Hearing this, Boruto paused. "Shouldn't we wait for her?" Sarada shook her head. "We're just brainstorming right now. We won't actually do anything without her."

She frowned. "And I want some ideas for when her dad finally returns and she's back to normal." Boruto tilted his head to the side. "I thought he was dead?"

Sarada snorted. "Have you met Kiba-san? Guys a literal beast. There's no way he's going down that easily. Now." She grinned at him. "Get ready, let's go!"

Boruto nodded excitedly, quickly throwing a maroon jacket on before following his sister out the door.
