My fingers glide over the soft surface beneath me as I slowly peeled my eyelids back. I shot up in stiff bed as the foggy memories of everything that happened come creeping back into my pounding skull. Sucking in a sharp breath a hiss escapes my lips as a sharp pain explodes though my rib cage from my sudden movement. I briefly remember how my body was thrown into a tree. Laying back down against the soft pillows behind me.

"Vala are you okay?" I rush out, panic grips me when she doesn't respond back. Before I can try again I hear the door creak open as a tall lean male with brown hair and kind brown eyes walks in wearing a white lab coat. Its than I notice I am lying in an unfamiliar hospital room.

"Aw you're awake." He smiles at me slowly walking closer to the bed I'm lying in. "I'm doctor Knox, Austin Knox."

"Where am I?" I question my words coming out more harshly than I intended. I'm uncomfortable with the fact I don't know him but also relaxed because I don't sense he is a threat.

"You are in the pack hospital here in the White River pack territory." He says gently the smile never leaving his face.

I feel Vala stirring inside me. "Vala! Vala are you okay?" I ask again focusing my energy towards her internally begging her to respond.

"You used a lot of energy and drained you and your wolfs strength." Dr. Know interrupts my internal focus. "I assure you, you both are fine and will recover fully. You should be able to feel and speak with your wolf in a couple more hours." He says reassuringly answering my unspoken question.

I sink back further into the pillows and let out a breath of relief. I don't know what I would do if something happened to Vala. As I close my eyes flashes of my mates face run through my mind.

"Wait!" I yell out attempting to sit up causing another sharp hiss to leave my lips. I cup my bandaged ribs in my hand as I continue to get into a sitting position.

"The man I was with in battle where is he, is he here? Is he alive!" I fire out the questions rapidly suddenly feeling ashamed I didn't ask sooner although I cant blame my self for thinking of Vala's health and safety as well.

"Calm down you need to rest until your ribs heal, it's taking a bit longer than normal since your wolf is also resting and healing." Dr. Knox gets a far off look on his face. "Although I still can't figure out why; besides six broken ribs and minor flesh wounds I don't see any other injuries that would cause your wolf to need the long period of rest." He rambles on as if talking to himself.  A confused look crossing his face making his brows furrow together.

"Doctor Knox." I yell breaking him from his rant. He shakes his head as if shaking off a buzzing fly that has come to close to your ear. "Please tell me if the man I was with is alive." I plead as a tight knot begins to form in my throat at the thought that my mate whom I just met could possibly be dead.

"I'm sorry." He begins and instantly tears begin to form in my eyes and I can't stop them as they cascade down my face. He seems to notice my distress and quickly corrects himself.

"Oh no, I don't mean I'm sorry he's dead. What I'm trying to say is I'm sorry I don't know what man you are referring to. You were brought here by some of the warrior's from your pack. If you'd like I can get them for you." He smiles at me again. "They haven't left the waiting room since they brought you in here."

His words don't bring me any relief and without my wolf I can't be sure if the small connection my mate and I have is still there.

"Yes please get them for me. Thank you." I say, softer this time.
