Kakyoin and Stevie made their way back to the common area where Joseph, Avdol, and Polnareff were sitting.
"Is my grandson still being an antisocial loner?" Joseph asked. "I let him know we'd be ordering dinner soon, but he didn't even look up from his manga."
Kakyoin shrugged, "He's probably just tired from his fight."
During dinner, the group tried to keep things cheery with light, goofy banter. Kakyoin talked about his love of cherries. Avdol told some anecdotes about an old lover. Eventually, Polnareff brought up stands again.
"So Stevie, your stand only works on someone if they are somewhat attracted to you?"
"Yeah," she said. "Luckily most bad guys have indecent thoughts about women in general, so I've never had a problem with defending myself."
"But what if you get robbed by a gay man?" Polnareff continued, "or a straight lady?"
"Umm," Stevie looked down at her plate, remembering how Joni turned to dust in front of her. "Well, I have this other weird power I can't really control, where I can discharge like, electrical currents? They come out of my hands."
Joseph dropped his fork and food fell out of his gaping mouth. "Hamon?" he said.
"Mmm I don't know what that is," Stevie said.
Joseph held his hand palm side up and energy began to dance around his fingertips. "Does it look like this?" he asked quietly.
"Yes! That's it," Stevie said, "but I don't trust myself to show you in this train car without hurting anyone. Like I said, I don't know how to use it."
"Nice!" Joseph said with his emerald eyes locked onto her. "I thought I might be the only hamon user left!" He laughed. "This is unbelievable! Here, place your hand on this glass of water."
Stevie grazed the glass with her thumb and fingertips. Joseph enveloped her hand in his, pushing the cup further into her palm. She could feel the warmth of his hand through his glove, which sent a shiver up her arm and down her spine.
"Now, try just letting out a teeny tiny amount of hamon through your palm," he said, leaning in. Avdol, Kakyoin, and Polnareff watched as Stevie began to blush. "Don't worry," Joseph continued, "I'll keep my hand here to catch it just in case."
The water in the glass started vibrating before going still. "Keep the flow going, and tighten your grip on the glass," Joseph said. He guided her to lift the glass in the air and turn it upside down. Everyone except Joseph gasped when the water didn't pour out of the glass.
"Oh bravo!" Polnareff clapped, breaking Stevie's concentration and causing the water to dump onto the table.
"Ooops," Stevie said.
"That's amazing!" Kakyoin said.
"You should be proud of yourself, Stevie," Avdol said. "Hamon is a very powerful weapon."
"I'll have to show you how to really use it once we're off this train," he beamed. "Lucky for you, I'm an incredible hamon master," he finished as he proudly stuck out his chest.
