I pad into my kitchen in nothing but a large top and get the biggest fright of my life when I see someone in my kitchen wearing my dad's clothes and I scream almost running out when the person turned around and I saw my dad
"Oh Dad" I remember then that they came home yesterday night. I sigh clutching my chest and resting my hand on the countertop.
"Hey princess are you okay??"
"Yeah yeah I'm good, I just need a minute. I totally forgot you lot came home yesterday" I say while straightening up "Where's Mom??"
"She's in the Bathroom" he says and goes back to the coffee he was making, it's a miracle there's anything in this house. I always order. I walk up to the fridge and take a bottle of water, twist the cap and gulp down the water.
"So what brings you back here, you and Mom" I ask as I rest on the counter.
"Well your mom and I decided to take a break from work and come spend some time with you, I think we all need time together as a family"
"Uhn uhn I don't believe you, what business are you here for this time? "
"We are serious baby although we have something we need to talk to you about" he says seriously
"Bingo! That's what I was waiting for, your real reason for visiting. Let's be quick about this discussion so that you guys can go back to your work, you are disrupting my routine" I say and dump my empty bottle in the bin
I turn around and see my mom at the door "Morning mama, dada said we have a serious discussion so how about we get it over with" I say as I pass her and she gives my dad a serious look which he shrugs at.
I settle down on the single couch and fold my legs in while using my hands to straighten my hair, I must look responsible for this discussion, maybe it's about my school.
"So princess, we have to congratulate you on your acceptance into Stanford, I bet you'll do real good, my smart little girl"
"Yeah baby we should go out and celebrate yunno" my mom chips in.
"No, no, no, just get on with what you want to say and get out of my house" I say
"No need to be rude, we are just happy for you and we want to celebrate has family at least this time" my mom says
"This time?? What do you mean this time? You guys are not going to die, are you?" I ramble and my dad stands up and sit on the arm of my chair, he puts his hand on my shoulder and smiles "We are not going to die but -" he looks at my mom "- we are getting a divorce"
My world spins and comes to a stop, I shove his hand off my shoulder and stand up "This is a joke right? There's no way you are getting divorced" I say looking from my mom to my Dad, I can't wrap the idea round my head.
"Baby we think it's best if we separate and just remain business partners, it's better that way"
I stand up from the chair and stagger away from them "You could have just called and told me, you didn't have to come all the way here with a rehearsed speech, I bet Dad is about to say 'look baby we love you and this has nothing to do with you' but this actually has everything to do with me" I run my hands through my hair " Godd, you rarely visit, you come around only for business and now you are coming to break this news to me! Wait are you getting a divorce or you've gotten a divorce??" I look at their faces and the answer is written all over their faces, God no "That's what you meant by this time as a family, this sucks Goddamnit. I'm out, don't you dare follow me"
"Honey you are only wearing a shirt"
"I don't give two shits, I hate the both of you" I say as I storm out and slam the door.
I had only gone about four houses down when I realized storming out in nothing but a top and flip-flops was a stupid idea but I was too angry to go back in there, it's a good thing I have my phone with me, I dial Soph's number hopefully she's not busy and I can stay over at hers, she doesn't pick up so I sent her a text.
"Hey Soph"
She replies almost immediately
"Hey Ash, sorry I missed your call, I was rushing over before it stopped ringing. I was just about to call you though, I got off the waiting list!!!!"
Oh wow, Soph had been on the waiting list for NYU and she's been so worried, Caleb got into NYU and I guess they want to get in the same college, I guess she's really happy now that she gets to go to college with Cay.
"OMG!!!! That's awesome, have you told Caleb?"
"Yeahhhhhh I called him almost immediately, we are going out to celebrate. Do you wanna come with?"
There's no way I'm being a third wheel besides I'm in no mood for celebrating.
"No, you guys go have fun :-), we'll have our own celebration without boys. Talk to you later, love you:-*"
Okay this is bad, I can't ruin her mood and Tyler has a date today. I really don't want to go over to Dylan's, I sigh and continue my walk down the street, I might just have to go home and lock myself in my room. I can't believe they are doing this to me, I think as tears start streaming down my face.
"Hey Chipmunk, I can understand that you can be crazy at times but not crazy enough to wear my shirt and only flops round the neighborhood, this is plain hilarious, I better take a picture, I don't get to see this everyday" I hear a phone camera go off and turn to find Dylan in his car laughing at me.
"That's not funny Dy"
"The hell it's no-" he pauses as he notices my tear "Hey what's wrong, get in the car" he stops his car and I get in.
"Can you just drive, maybe to your place when we get there we'll talk" I say as I lean my head on the headrest and he zooms off without a word.
