Natalie's POV
"What do you need Stark?" I asked as I approached him.
"You have a call."
I was quite shocked to hear back so quickly from the teams. It's only been about two days since they left. Barely even that long.
"From who?" I asked.
"Everyone."
All the teams? Really? I'm surprised, to say the least. I guess I'll be running things from the desk now. The ultimate guy in the chair.
"Alright Miss Carter, I got Carol, but none of us know how to get a hold of these so-called 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' Got any tips?" Fury asked.
I tried to think, but last I knew they blew up a planet and are just hanging around space. I truly don't know where they are. The only people that I could even think about being in contact with them would be the Nova Core.
"Try Xandar. They are in league with the Nova Core. They would know how to be able to get them there. When you meet Gamora explain the situation and together you can convince the Nova Core to hand on the Power Stone and bring it back to Earth. After that, we'll have two stones. Any word on Thor?"
I heard a sigh from across the line.
"None yet. His lack of technology makes things very difficult. What that one guy? Uh, Heimdal. Shouldn't he know we're coming?" Nick trying to think of a solution.
"Not likely. He was sentenced to treason and is on the run. What you can do is send Carol to Asguard. At least get the Tesseract. Try to subtle and remain unseen. Loki isn't exactly one to just let that go," I explain.
"Got it," Carol said sternly.
"Let me know how things go."
"Will do, Carter," Nick said before ending the transmission.
As I was about to make a call to Natasha, I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"That's three stones Nattie," Steve said with a slight smile.
"Three stones isn't nearly enough. Which is why it's really important the Ancient One believes Natasha," I sighed.
Nat answered the call immediately.
"Good. I'm glad you called. We have a problem," Natasha groaned.
Great.
"And what problem would that be?" I said while massaging my temples.
I was stupid to think that it would be this easy. I did prepare for some problems but I didn't think I would have a problem this early.
"King T'Chaka isn't pleased with our unannounced arrival. Neither is he pleased with us asking to open his doors to the world and offering his military to help us. He's considering it, but since he doesn't see your memories as proof he wants to take time to discuss it. I don't think it's a good idea for us to leave either. I think it's best we stay so we can show some urgency."
That is very unfortunate but partially expected.
"I agree, you need to stay. I will take care of securing the Time Stone and the alliance with the Ancient One. Just keep me updated on Wakanda," I said before ending the call.
I stand up and make my way for Stark and Pym to get an update on their progress.
"How the Quantum Tunnel? Going?"
"Everything's good so far we'll probably be done in two days at the most. We could use some extra hands," Tony said as he finished screwing in a piece.
I could definitely help, but I would have to idea what I'm doing. Which is why I got so many brains. I would just be a robot controlled by the real handymen.
"And I will do everything I can the second I get back. I have a stone to go fetch."
Then I remember I have nowhere to put these stones when we get them.
"Shit."
"What's wrong now?"
Hank Pym's attitude is never something one can forget.
"Stark, how's the Nanotech going for you?"
"How did you... never mind. It's still in the works. Why?"
"You need to build a gauntlet that can handle the power of the stones. That needs to happen soon, so get on it."
As I left the compound, Steve ran after me. He called out my name and I stopped.
"Natalie, wait. I'm confused. If we can get all of the stones before Thanos and snap everything away, why do we need access to the Quantum realm?" he asked.
It was a very good question. I always knew we had to get the stones before Thanos and I knew it would be fairly easy to do so considering I knew exactly where to get them and how. Except for one.
In order to get the soul stone someone has to die. That's something I simply couldn't do. So it took a very long time to think of something but then I had that dream.
~~~
It was dark and dreary. Hardly light to be seen except for the small stream of purple light that managed to shine past the planet's moon.
It was quiet which made every step to the top of the mountain louder.
I didn't get very far when I heard the beaming voice of the guide from the top of the mountain.
He spoke the names of the progenitors of those who came in search of a soul.
The wind from a single arrow leaving its bow reached my ear.
I knew what was about to take place. I ran to the top, but I couldn't move.
My body was no longer mine and I was taken to the bottom of the cliff.
Her last words rang and I could feel my stomach sink.
I was forced to watch her fall. I was forced to watch the crimson color flood from her skull.
I could not move. I could not scream.
Her eyes stared into me as my heart broke.
There was no color in her skin.
No light in her eyes.
I was forced to death take her soul to give to another.
I saw the silhouette of the seeker take steps towards me. The pure glow of the widow's soul gleaned from his hand.
He did not leave with it. He didn't want to hold her life in his hands.
He offered the stone to me instead.
"Why?"
"Because you need it. Because you can spare her. Because you save the innocent."
~~~
"Because I can save the innocent."
