Chapter 2: Damon

Damon's POV

It was the last day before winter break and I knew that one of the omega kids were having a birthday barbecue tonight.

"Honey you should go, as future alpha you will need to get to know everyone and whether you like it or not, you need to. Please, for me?" My gorgeous girlfriend Melissa asked.

I could never say no to Melissa, she was a great girlfriend and I love her, she may not be my mate, but if I have her, I will be happier than ever. I wanted to use tonight to prepare for proposing to her though. I had bought the ring 3 weeks ago and have been so nervous about asking her that I have been holding off.

"Alright Mel, I'll do it for you." I kissed her forehead and wrapped my arm around her waist. She smiled and began talking to her sister about plans for the weekend. Just then I caught a whiff of the most delicious smell in the world, it smelled of warm vanilla and brown sugar, and then I saw her, I think her name was Beth, she was absolutely stunning. She walked into the Café with another of the omega kids, I believe her name is Minnie. I couldn't help but stare as her long auburn hair cascaded down her sides and back, and her green eyes sparkled like emeralds. Her lips were a light pink and she was the most petite girl in our pack, freckles graced her nose and cheeks and to say she was the epitome of someone of Irish descent would be an understatement.

"MATE" My wolf and I said simultaneously.

"What was that honey?" shit did I say that out loud?

"Nothing babe, I am going to go I'll see you after class." I pecked her lips and looked up to see Beth gone, I went inside and tried to pick up her scent but couldn't. Well this is not good.

'MATE WE FOUND OUR MATE GO TO HER NOW YOU IDIOT!' my wolf screamed at me.

Just then the bell rang and I promised my wolf we would search again after class. Next we had gym and I could smell her. I changed quickly in the boy's locker room and went into the gym. I saw her running with a group of girls and tried to catch up to her. I had to talk to her, but every time I tried to get near her or talk to her she either ran the other way or she changed the subject. By the time the second bell rang signaling the end of class, she was gone. After changing back into my day clothes, I saw her running out of the ladies locker room and she almost ran smack into me. "Beth, please wait!" I yelled as she dodged me and kept running to her truck. Before I could catch up to her she was peeling out of her parking spot and speeding off. She had 2 other males with her and I couldn't stop myself from wanting to kill them.

I got in my car and headed back to the pack house, then remembered she's having a barbecue tonight. I would go, just like I promised Mel, and would finally be able to talk to her. I put the pedal to the metal and got home as fast as I could so I could get ready. I didn't know what I was going to do yet but I had to do something. Just then I saw the ring sitting in my glovebox in its satin blue box with a bow, and knew what I had to do. My heart sank a little and I knew I would feel guilty, but I loved Melissa and didn't know this Beth girl at all. I just hope this all works out like it needed to.

My phone began ringing and I answered it without looking at the caller ID.

"Damon, we need to talk..." It was Melissa and something was wrong.
