"Beth, I have a very important mission should you accept." Stormy tells me as we walk down the familiar beach, the gentle waves tickling our toes as they stroke the sand.
"Anything Stormy." I tell her. We have become close over the last few months. Who would have thought I would be best friends with the Moon Goddess herself!
"As you know, mates are no longer rare, but it is not completely in my control who gets to mate with who. I simply strengthen our natural connections to be able to find compatible mates faster. I would like you to host a ball, twice per year. Different pack areas, different countries, we span the world, so everyone who can go needs to, and they need plenty of opportunity to do so. I want a formal dance arranged in a place of mediations where shifters of all kinds can go to meet their mates." She tells me, looking at the crystal blue water and then to me.
"This is a huge responsibility. I would need some help." I tell her.
"You may recruit help." She tells me, a lopsided grin spreading across her face.
"And muscle." I say, returning her grin.
"Sounds like you might need your familys help. Who knows, they may find their mates in the process." She says.
"And Minnie?" I ask, as we walk further down the beach.
"I wouldn't dare dream of separating my two most clever wolves." She teases. "Or should I say mischievous."
I laugh out loud with that. "Hey, Joe and Clayton deserved it." I say.
"Deserved what? I was talking about that prank you two pulled on Sasha and Slayter." she tells me seriously.
"Oh, thats what I said. Nothing happened to Joe and Clayton." I tell her quickly and speed up a little bit.
She laughs, the sound melodious. She bids me goodnight and I return home, Clayton stretched languidly on the couch watching a movie and our triplet pups curled up in a heap on the floor, exhausted from discovering their new shifting abilities all day. I smile, my heart warm with love and acceptance.
"Welcome home honey. Did you have a good talk with our Goddess?" He asks, standing to greet me with a hug and kiss.
"Yup, and she is about to make me a very busy woman. I hope you like to travel my sweet mate. We are about to get to see the world." I tell him.
We both glance down at our sleeping pups, me taking one and him taking two to tuck them into bed as I fill him in on our mission via mindlink to not wake the little ones.
"Did you accept?" he asks.
"I did. I asked for the help of my family and Minnie in organizing this, and she already knows we are a team." I tell him as we walk into our room.
"I say we should celebrate." He tells me, closing the door behind us with a soft click.
I look back at him and see a hungry wolf where my husband once stood.
"What do you have in mind?" I ask, a wicked grin of my own spreading across my face before he leaps and pushes me back onto the bed.
