Chapter 21: Clayton

I woke up early and had my mother and Sasha come over to take Beth to lunch. In the mean time I had gotten together with my father and Slayter and we headed to the waterfall.

"Are you sure she will like this you guys? It has to be perfect. This isn't just any night or any normal date this is THE date." I said for probably the hundredth time earning an eye roll from Slayter and groan from my dad.

"Son if you keep this up, I am going to make you leave and finish this myself. Your mom has been telling me everything that is going on as they are out to lunch and from what we have set up it will be perfect. She said to do red meat and stay away from green vegetables, she can't seem to stand them today. She also said no strong smells unless its vanilla and it would be better to be in the form of a dessert."

"You are right, I'm sorry I am just so nervous."

"Go get ready, we will finish up here."

"Thank you." I said and ran back to my jeep. Starting the engine, I take off towards home.

-Mom, I am going home to get ready; can you please keep Beth occupied and away from home until I am ready. Tell her you girls are going to have an evening at the beach or something and meet us where Dad told you we set up at 7 please.-

-You got it son; I will give your father the ring and don't even think we won't be there to take pictures. We will stay hidden but I want to see this, my baby is getting engaged! - she says excitedly in our pack link.

I park the jeep and go inside, unlocking the door before I open it and run up to our room. I put on one of my best suits, make sure my face is freshly shaved and smooth and that my hair is brushed, even with how short it is. I then make sure I don't stink, and dab a little bit of my favorite cologne on, a sandalwood and vanilla blend. I check the mirror one more time and decide I am good.

-Mom I am done getting ready. Give me 15 to get out of the house and Beth can come get ready.- I tell her, knowing she will help out and guide her choices.

-Got it son. We just got done at the salon. She looks beautiful and doesn't suspect a thing.- she tells me.

I get into my Jeep again and head to town to get some groceries, a delicious vanilla and strawberry cake with whipped cream frosting, and flowers. I decide on some carnations and roses with babies breath, at the oh so welcome recommendation of the florist, Josh. He and his husband are giddy with excitement at the prospect of another wedding and getting to do the flowers for it.

"Thank you so much, she will love these." I say as I back out the door and get back to my Jeep, just as the clock strikes 7. I have an hour to get back to the lake, cook the food and finish setting up.

I carefully secure everything in the car before dashing back into the flower shop and Josh has another bag ready with rose petals and a small vase for the table.

"How did you..." I ask before he interrupts.

"Because I am just that good. Now go. You don't want to keep her waiting!" He says with a smirk and I hug him gratefully before snagging the bag and dashing back out the door.

The drive to the lake doesn't take too long, and I arrive with forty minutes to get things ready. My dad and Slayter are still there, finishing hanging the lights and they plug them into an extension cord as I pull up. The entire scene lights up with soft white twinkle lights and some of them have little heart shapes on them, casting a pink glow every so often.

I get out of the car and pass off the rose petals and small vase for the table to my Dad who artfully tosses them around the table and walk way up to it. Slayter lights some torches and fires up the grill, ready to cook our meal for us instead of letting me do it. He was a good cook, and I gratefully accepted the help.

"This is it, she should be here in about 10 minutes," I say as I look over everything one more time. This is going to be perfect.
