“What are you doing to me?” he cocked his head on one side and stared at me with that smile plastered across his face. What did I do to him?

“Um...sir, I’m not sure I know what you mean”

“Ms. Jackson, do you really expect me to believe you?”

“Yes?”

He let out a small chuckle. Oh, how his laugh was amazing. Please don’t stop laughing! I want to hear it all the time.

“I should’ve fired you on your first day for speaking up, but I didn’t” I gulped. Where is he going with this? “And I could have fired you when you were on your phone, but yet I didn’t. Why didn’t I?”

“Because you think I can work harder?” I shrugged.

He chuckled again, “You are just a small ball of amusement, aren’t you?”

“Small ball?” I raised my eyebrows. I tried to raise one, but failed miserably. He raised one of his eyebrows at my actions and smiled.

“You need practice”

“Practice for what?”

“To do this” he replied as he raised one of his eyebrows.

I giggled at him, “I think I should focus my time on more important things than raising my eyebrows”

“Why’d you stop?”

“Stop what?”

“Your laugh. It’s so cute”

Cute? He thinks my laugh is cute? Then what’s his - adorable!?

“Um...thanks sir” I felt my cheeks heat up and I stared down at my lap.

“You just never seem to stop amazing me”

I looked up at him and he still was smiling, and his smile was contagious because I was smiling like a goof back at him.

“But I’m your boss” his tone completely changed and his smile disappeared. I removed the smile from my face as well.

“What happened today can’t happen again Ms. Jackson”

“I understand”

“See you Monday”

“Um...sir. I won’t be here on Monday. Remember, back to college?”

“Oh right. What days are you here?”

“Thursday and Friday”

“Okay, and this is until the end of May right?”

“Yes sir”

“And MacKayla?”

“Yes?” He said my first name for the first time. It sounds so beautiful coming out of his mouth.

“Please call me Chris. I feel way too old when you call me sir”

“But doesn’t Tiffany calls you sir as well?” I asked.

“Yes, but she’s not you”

I scrunched up my eyebrows, unable to process what he said.

“You’re not her” he clarified.

Still, I didn’t understand what he meant. He walked across the table to sit on the edge of his desk next to me; our legs barely touching, but I could feel the electricity speed through me.

“You’re something different MacKayla”

“Good different of bad different?”

He shook his head and a smile appeared on his face again, “Good different”

“So you don’t want all your workers to call you Chris, but for the girl who made you so mad, it’s okay?”

“Yes, it’s okay. Just for you”

I scrunched up my eyebrows.

“Don’t do that too much. You’ll get wrinkles before you’re thirty” he joked as he placed a finger between my eyebrows, where the skin was scrunched together. I held in my breath as his fingers tingled my skin.

“MacKayla?”

“Chris?”

He removed his finger and leaned in closer to my face, until we were eye to eye, nose to nose, and his breath was on my lips. I stared into his eyes as he stared back at me. His gray eyes were staring right into me, as if they were looking for something - an answer.

“What am I going to do with you?” he broke the silence.

I couldn’t speak. He came closer to me and my breath hitched as he placed his soft lips on mine.

I didn’t know what was happening. He was kissing me. It took me awhile for me to respond back to the kiss, but when I did, I didn’t regret a second of it. He snaked his arms around my waist, as I wrapped mine around his neck and tugged on his hair.

When we pulled back to catch our breaths, he was smiling, and so was I, but soon his smile disappeared to a more serious look, along with his tone.

“I’m your boss Ms. Jackson” So we’re back to Ms. Jackson. Great!

I nodded, unable to form words.

“You’re my assistant, and I’m your boss” he repeated, more to himself than me.

He unwrapped his arms from my waist and I felt alone. No! Don’t leave me!

“That was a mistake Ms. Jackson” he said as he walked back to his chair. He didn’t look at me. Instead, he just started typing on his computer. I just stared at him in disbelief. He looked over at me with a blank stare. “You can leave now Ms. Jackson. I’ll see you on Thursday”

What was going on? We just kissed and he said it was a mistake. I stood up from the chair and headed to the door, but before I walked out, he called after me once more.

“Ms. Jackson?”

“Yes?”

“Can you tell Tiffany to email the documents for the new project? She knows who she has to email it to already”

I nodded my head, then realized he wasn’t looking at me. He was looking at that damned computer.

“Will do Chris”. And with that, I walked out of his office.
