“Ms. Jackson, how wonderful to see you again” he gave me a sideways smile as he took a sip from his wine.
“Feeling’s mutual” I lied between my gritted teeth as I tried to force a smile on my lips. “Not to be rude or anything, but why are you here?”
“I just wanted to give your friend here a ride. You know cabs aren’t the safest forms of transportations for such beautiful ladies” he looked over at Jade and smiled as she returned it. His arm was wrapped around her shoulders, and I noticed he gently squeezed it.
“Yeah, of course” I looked around to see the place was still the same as it was this morning when I left. My magazines were scattered across the living room with some pictures of good fashion trends cut out, along with my work papers and some personal designs. I slouched my shoulders, thinking - Jade’s never gonna change. No matter how many times I tell her to clean up the place, she never does.
“Are you staying over for dinner?” I asked Mr. Grey.
“No, I should be leaving”
“What? Why so soon?” Jade asked.
“I have some work to get back to” he stood up from the couch and made his way towards me. “Ms. Jackson”
“Mr. Grey” and with that he walked out of the apartment.
“You’re so lucky!” Jade gushed as soon as I locked the door.
“Lucky? Why?”
“You have such a hot boss!”
“It’s work Jade. I’ve told you this before”
“I know, but seriously. He’s so into you!” Okay, now this completely took me off guard.
“What are you talking about?”
“When he dropped me off, he didn’t want to come, but I forced him. And when we were here, he kept looking over at your designs and saying how wonderfully talented you are, and kept going on and on about how amazing of an assistant you are - the best he’s ever had!”
“Um...thanks” The best? Doesn’t seem like that at work when he’s up in my face, screaming at me on full volume.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing” I lied.
“MacKayla Jackson! You tell me what’s wrong right now!” Jeez, full name.
“Nothing Jade. I’m fine” I assured her. “Is that all you two did?” I asked her as I started grabbing my papers and magazines.
“Are you jealous MacKayla?”
I stopped what I was doing and turned around to look at her, “What? Why would I be jealous?”
“You like your boss, that’s why” she crossed her arms across her chest.
“W-what?” I stuttered. “That is so not true”
“You like him. He likes you. Why don’t you just do something already!”
“He doesn’t like me, okay!? I’m his damned assistant intern. And he’s my boss!” I yelled back at her. My hands were all over the place.
“Damned intern? Is that what you think you are?”
“He thinks of me like that too” I whispered. My eyes fell to my feet.
“Aww, MacKayla. You’re not a damned intern. You’re amazing at what you do, no matter what it is” she comforted me as she rubbed my back.
