“MacKayla, there’s someone in the lobby who’s here for you”

“Oh. I’ll go see who it is”

I walked into the elevator and as soon as the doors were about to close, someone’s hand reopened them, and in walked Grey himself.

“Ms. Jackson?” he raised his eyebrow, shocked that I was in the elevator, heading to the lobby.

“Mr. Grey” I nodded my head as he walked in.

“You really can’t just work for a long time can you?”

I looked up to notice him smirking at me.

“I was told there’s someone here for me in the lobby. I just wanted to see who it was” I assured him.

He nodded his head as if he was trying to process what I said. “Just  make sure you get back to work soon”

“I will”

“MacKayla!” a squeaking voice screeched. I noticed Jade was running towards me with her arms open.

“Jade!” I ran to her and we hugged tightly. She let go and checked me at arm’s length while I noticed she changed her hair. It wasn’t jet black anymore; instead, it was a darkish shade of red and put up in a messy bun as her bangs hung loosely on the side of her face. She was wearing sweats, but still looked good. She didn’t look like she just got off of a plane.

“So how’s work?” she inquired.

“It’s fine. I’ll tell you more when I get home”

“Speaking of home, do you have the keys?”

“Of course” I dug out my keys from my pocket and handed them to her.

“Thank you so much!” she captured me in a bone crushing hug – one that took all the air out of my lungs.

“Can’t breathe” I managed to choke out.

She quickly pulled away, “Funny as ever” sarcasm echoed in her voice. “Well, I’ll let you be. Don’t be home too late”

“Don’t worry, mom!” I emphasized the last word more and noticed her raise one eyebrow.

“I’m not that old! Plus, I saw her this week and she totally misses you. You should’ve came” she complained – typical Jade. She always goes on a trip on her own, but when she comes back, she wishes I was there with her.

“It’s okay. Maybe next time?”

She nodded her head, agreeing. She was about to leave, but we heard a man clear his throat right behind me. Jade looked up to see who it was and I turned around to come face to face with Mr. Grey. Great! I thought he left. How long has he been watching us for?

“Ms. Jackson”

“Mr. Grey”

“Who’s your friend?”

“This is –“

“I’m Jade Macari. MacKayla’s best friend and roommate” she cut me off and handed him her hand. He shook it before planting a soft kiss on it.

“Pleasure to meet you Ms. Macari”

“The feeling’s mutual” she tried to keep her ground, but I knew she was going to explode any moment.

He smiled at her and then turned to me, “Ms. Jackson, I believe I sent you some documents to work on. Your break was done hours ago”

“Yes sir. I’ll get back on it”

“Meet you back at the apartment Jade. Bye” I gave her a quick hug and glanced over at Grey looking over at us like a hawk. I sped into the elevator and pressed the big 10 on it to lead me back to work; and before the doors closed, I heard Grey and Jade sharing a laugh. He looked genuinely happy and his eyes weren’t radiating any anger. He was a completely different person. Before I could see anything else, the doors closed and I was being lifted to the tenth floor.

The day went by fairly quickly, and before I knew it, it was 5 o’clock, meaning I was done for the day, and done for the week. I never noticed Mr. Grey walk back into his office. Either he never came back, or I just didn’t notice him.

I packed up my stuff and said a quick goodbye to Tiffany and walked to the elevators to take me to the lobby. A few people were still there because the office doesn’t close until six, and afterwards, security and the cleaners come here to fix up the place. I walked to the parking lot, and noticed how the sun sets later nowadays. I could see the sky creating a purple-pink scenery, and the mountains surrounding the valley were turning into a nice shade of black. It was a beautiful site to see. Living in Los Angeles had its perks, but it also had its downsides, which I rather not think about.

Quickly driving back to my apartment, I noticed to find the door unlocked. It was closed, but unlocked. Silly Jade, but it was smart of her since I don’t have the keys. I shut the door behind me and was welcomed by a familiar figure in my living room.
