“Mom?”

We had just walked into Chris’s living room and right in the middle of the room, a lady was standing there.

“What are you doing here?” He asked her. He was still holding me in his arms. I pushed on his chest to make him let go, but that just made him tighten his grip.

“Chris, let me go” I glared at him. I looked at him in his eyes to see them soften as he put me down on my feet. I flattened out my dress and glanced at the woman, who appears to be Chris’s mom.

“Why are you here?” He asked her again.

“Why must there always be a reason? I’m just here to see my son, but I see you’re busy”

“If you called earlier, we could’ve done something. Is dad here too?”

“Yes he is. He got a call so he’s taking it in the kitchen”

He nodded and wrapped his arm around me. The woman looked over at me and smiled. She walked over to us and hugged Chris in a nice, warm hug.

“I’m so happy you’ve finally found someone” She rubbed his back and he hugged her back. He smiled warmly at her.

“This is my girlfriend, McKayla Jackson”

“Nice to meet you Mrs. Grey”

“The feeling’s mutual,” she smiled warmly at me.

“But why are you here so late?” Chris asked his mother.

“There have been many troubles with your father’s business”

“What’s going on?”

“They’re saying we can’t give up the company to just anyone working for us; it needs to go to someone who’s in our will”

“Someone needs to inherit it?”

She nodded.

“Well is Eric in the will?” He asked. Who’s Eric?

“We were thinking you should handle it” She rubbed his arm and he stiffened. Why am I still here?

“You know I have my own company” I tried to remove myself from his grasp, but he just tightened his arm around me and looked down.

“What’s wrong?”

“I should head home”

He looked in my eyes as if searching for something, but sighed when there was nothing. “Here” He pulled out his car keys and handed them to me.

“What?”

“Take my car”

“I can handle walking back home”

“Take my car MacKayla” He didn’t scream, but yet he sounded intimidating. I looked over at his mother, who had disappeared into another room.

“Chris, I can walk home. I don’t live far”

“I don’t want you alone walking around town at night”

“I’ll take a cab”

“Just take my car” He shoved the keys towards me.

“But –“

“No. Just take it” He stepped back and away from the keys.

I stomped my foot on the ground, “Fine” I replied, defeated as I walked out the door.

“MacKayla” He sighed. He grabbed me by my waist and planted a swift kiss on my cheek. “I’ll see you tomorrow”

I looked up at him in confusion. What’s tomorrow?

As if he read my mind, he replied, “You will have to return my car” He winked as he let me go.

“See you tomorrow Chris” I chirped as I got into his car.

“You too”

As soon as I drove away from his driveway, he closed the door and walked into his home.
