“MacKayla! I’m home!” Jade’s voice rang through the apartment. I had returned back from work and locked myself in my room. Jade had some night classes to attend and came back after dinner. I hadn’t eaten anything since my last encounterance with Grey.

After coming from work, I’ve been in my room, on my window seat, crying out my heart. I feel so used, unloved, rejected, but he doesn’t even see it. He’s just been so selfish, thinking about his own self. He’s just so confusing, and I can’t ever follow him. He made me give him my heart, and he just crushed it. And I can’t even leave because this is my dream job, and he just had to include my design in the new project. And I can’t leave him because I love him too much.

“MacKayla?” I heard a soft knock on my door. It was Jade, but I was too broken to answer her.

“You okay?” I heard her ask through the door. I felt the tears escape my eyes again, and even though I tried to rub them away, they wouldn’t stop. They just kept flowing out until there was no more water left in my eyes.

“MacKayla?” I heard her knock again.

“Yeah?” I replied. My voice was hoarse.

“You okay?”

“Yeah” I lied.

“How was work?”

“Fine” I lied again.

“You wanna open the door?”

“I’m gonna sleep”

“Are you sure you’re fine. You don’t sound fine”

“I’m fine. I’m just tired”

“Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow”

I didn’t reply, but I heard footsteps and the T.V. turn on so I knew she was in the living room. I still sat on the window seat, admiring the view.

The sky was completely dark, but there were some sparkling lights shimmering throughout the city. I took out my sketchbook to decide to draw the night sky to take my mind away from everything. As I flipped to a blank page, I noticed the page with my dress design. The one Grey put with the new project. I couldn’t help but shed a few more tears.

Next to the design was a small post-it which said:

Ms. Jackson,

You are very talented, and this design shows all your passion. I can see it’s going to go far and many people will reach out for it. I can also see you going far with this business. That’s why I want to offer you a full-time job as head fashion designer once you graduate. I hope you can accept this as an apology for the way I’ve acted towards you.

Christopher Grey

A full-time job as head designer?I couldn’t help but form a small smile on my lips as I kept reading the note. It may be short, but it just made me forget about everything that happened...almost forget.

Whenever I read the last sentence, everything came crashing down.

Who was that Caroline lady? He can’t possibly be dating her! She’s way too old! Unless he likes older women; maybe that’s why he backed away from me.

I don’t know how long I sat there, staring at the note before my eyelids started to close and darkness took over me.

“MACKAYLA!” I shot out of bed, panicked for what just happened. I heard loud screeching screams coming from the other side of the door. After mentally waking up, I realized it was Jade. I glanced over at my alarm clock to see it was past noon. SHIT! I’ve never woken up this late. Usually I wake up around seven or eight. Never have I woken up past that, more importantly past noon.

I quickly got up and opened the door to see Jade in the living room talking to a familiar figure.

“MacKayla! You’re awake!” she yelled as she saw me. I was wearing my pink pajamas and my hair was messy and untamed. My eyes were red and dry from crying too much.

“Hey Jade” I whispered quietly as I walked over to the kitchen, past her and the familiar figure. I didn’t get a chance to glance their way, but I didn’t want to. Whoever it was, didn’t seem to mind my presence, and I didn’t want to waste my time checking who they were.

As I was taking out some cereal, I heard footsteps enter the kitchen.

“MacKayla” I heard him speak.
