GENDER NEUTRAL
Global and Bookish. Those are the two words that Gilbert Blythe had used to describe himself in the activity done in class today. Oddly enough, the two words seemed to fit his persona quite well. In fact, Y/N L/n thought of some other adjectives to describe the boy:
Handsome
Intelligent
Intuitive
Creative
Admirable
Loveable
The list continues. These are just some of the words that could be used to describe the popular boy. The thoughts of Gilbert Blythe stormed Y/n's head until Ms. Stacey's voice interrupted the thoughts.
"Y/n? What about you? What two words that begin with the same first letter as your first and last name describe you?"
Y/n was caught off guard, in all the time thinking about Gilbert, Y/n never stopped to think about adjectives for their name.
"Oh- I- um. I don't know, I'm sorry." Y/n stuttered.
Giggles were heard among the classroom, particularly coming from Josie's mouth.
"I could come back to you if you'd like." Ms. Stacey suggested.
With a nod, Y/n looked away embarassed.
After the activity, Y/n bolted to the coatroom to get home as soon as possible. As Y/n pulled the door open to begin the walk home, a voice caught her attention.
"Y/n! Wait a moment!" The voice called.
Y/n recognized the voice to be that of Gilbert Blythe and looked down at the mud before turning around to see Gilbert standing right there.
"Would you mind if I joined you for the walk home?" He asked politely.
"No of course not, I'd rather enjoy the company." Y/n said confidently with a smile.
As the pair began their walk, Y/n thought of all of the possible things to start a conversation with him. Just as Y/n's mouth opened to say something, Gilbert began to speak.
"I'm sorry we didn't hear your adjectives for your name today. I would have liked to know." He said shyly.
"I just can't believe I couldn't come up with something. It was so embarrassing." Y/n said with a soft chuckle.
"I thought it was sweet, you being flustered I mean. It was sort of adorable." Gilbert pointed out.
"Well thank you. And what about you Mr. Global and Bookish?" Y/n started with another chuckle.
"What about me?"
"Well I know why you'd use bookish to describe yourself, you never put down your books. But why global, do you wish to travel?" Y/n inquired to the taller boy.
"After I finish my schooling I would love to travel the world. There is so much out there and I want to see it all, I don't want to miss a thing. My father loved to travel you know, and we always wanted to go together. Now that he's passed, it feels strange to be living without him let alone traveling but I suppose I should travel for the both of us." He confessed.
"I suppose that's a lovely way to see it, you know, traveling for the both of you." Y/n replied.
"Have you ever thought about traveling, y/n?" He inquired, a sincere tone leaving his lips.
"Of course I have. I've always wondered what's outside of Avonlea." Y/n said, looking out at the water before them stopping the pair in their tracks.
With arms stretched out to the side and eyes closed, Y/n took a deep breath before continuing.
"My parents have never mentioned traveling at all, they don't seem quite interested in traveling. They're getting older and I don't think that we have the means for it either, but without a doubt I would love to travel. Books are wonderful but I would love to live adventures like that for myself while I travel. But what's stopping you from traveling, Gil?" Y/n inquired.
Gilbert took a breath in and paused before answering the question.
"I suppose I'm just waiting."
"Oh? For what?" Y/n asked, brows wrinkling in confusion.
"Perhaps the right person to travel with." Gilbert said, taking Y/n's hand in his.
