Lucas' Playlist : "You Can't Hurry Love", The Supremes

Aidan was as handsome as ever, but the blue of his eyes was grey in the darkness of the club.

"Hi, so you are still alive," I said with a smile. "Nice to see you."

"I was just leaving. Obviously, the show is over."

As he turned away from me, I grabbed his arm. "You disappeared for days and you did not even answer my message. And you are upset? Come on. Talk to me."

"You don't need me. You've found your vampire pal."

I stared at him with a mix of affection and amusement while taking his hand in mine. "I understand that it is a sensitive topic for you but are you seriously jealous of James? Because of one song?" Aidan did not answer. I continued. "James can be annoying but he is a great guy and a great singer. He is fun. I understand why you two are best friends."

"Were."

"Come on. You adore each other. Please, stop pretending otherwise. And yes, I like him. But that is the end of it. You know it is a different story with you. I opened my mind for you to see how I felt. Did you forget about it ?"

Aidan's gaze softened and he delicately touched my hair. I smiled.

James came back and he gave me a glass of wine. Anna had probably told him that beer was not my thing. The tension between the two vampires was palpable. They stared at each other.

"What are you doing here, Aidan?" James said.

"I was just leaving."

"Great. Please do."

They kept on teasing each other and the tone was worse and worse. However, I could not hear what they were saying any longer. Lucas was playing a Supremes song and it triggered some sad memories. The room around me felt very heavy all of a sudden and I could not help but cry.

"I can't believe you, James. I... Elise, are you okay?" Aidan suddenly noticed the tears on my face and looked at me utterly worried. I heard his voice as if he were far away.

"Sorry. We didn't want to upset you," James tried.

They were utterly confused. I collected my thoughts and went back to the present. "No, it has nothing to do with you. This song. It is the last song my friend Nicolas heard before he died. He loved this song. I used to play it for him and sing it when he was at the hospital." My voice cracked.

"I'm so sorry," Aidan said. "Do you want to sit down?"

"Yes, thank you."

Anna ran towards me: "I'm so sorry, Boss. Lucas didn't know. I'm going to tell him to change the song. Are you ok?" I nodded. She ran back frantically waving at Lucas who had no idea what all this fuss was about.

James poured some water into a glass for me while I wiped the tears off of my face.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Aidan asked.

I realized how concerned they both were and it made me smile. "I am fine. Thank you. Both of you. I am glad you are here. You know, you should enjoy the time you have together before it is too late. You never know what will happen."

They did not say a word but they did not pursue their fight either.
