Meiqi went in and out of multiple rooms, trying to find Jiaqi. She knew the building was big, but she never realized how big it was until she actually had to go to a different room aside from the same dance room that she went to every day. She ended up running into Yauxan and decided to ask him because she was tired of wandering around. "Yaxuan do you know where Jiaqi is, I can't find which room I'm supposed to go to".

"Jiaqi... ", Yaxuan was trying to think of where his leader would be. "What class are you guys doing today?"

"Vocal, I'm practicing with him for his upcoming performance".

"Oh girlll, no wonder you can't find him. This floor is only for dance. Vocal is on the 11th floor. I'll bring you upstairs". Meiqi didn't even realize the floors were split up like that, but it made sense why everyone gathered on this floor was only dancing. Yaxuan took this opportunity to strike up a conversation with Meiqi and decided to speak in Canto. This was his way of making her feel at home, and it worked as she smiled once he asked her how she was doing in Canto.

The walk to the 11th floor was short but it put Meiqi at ease. "Ok we're here", Yaxuan said as he pointed to a room. He opened it and said, "Good luck and see you later" in Canto too, Jiaqi turned around, asking what he had just said. "You wouldn't get it, this is our secret language. Right Meiqi?", he said as he waved bye and skipped down the hall. Yaxuan's presence made Meiqi happy, he was the cheerful little brother that she never had, so she was glad to have him in her life now.

Jiaqi smirked. "Isn't he so childish", he asked. Meiqi smiled, "I guess that's the joy of being young and innocent". "You're not that much older than him", Jiaqi said with a raised eyebrow. "You know what I mean".

"Anyways, let's get to practice now Xiao Mei". Xiao Mei, this nickname again. Meiqi was just about to ask why he kept calling her that when their vocal teacher arrived. Karry Wang.

"Hey nice to meet you; welcome to TF Family", Karry said, extending his hand for a handshake. There was another knock on the door and entered in Roy Wang. "He's going to be here for only a little; he just wanted to see how your vocal abilities are since there wasn't any clip of you singing online", explained Karry.

"Oh boy, you're in for a surprise then", said Jiaqi. Roy turned to Karry and whispered, "Does that mean she's good or bad". Karry shrugged "Guess we'll find out". They started off with some warm-ups like do re mi fa so, before moving onto the song that they would be singing. Karry handed out two sheets of paper to both of them, "Here's the song that you guys will be singing". Meiqi looked at it, and her eyes widened. She glanced over to see what Jiaqi's reaction was. "夜空中最闪亮的星, one of my favorite songs!!. We get to sing this for the upcoming performance?"

Karry nodded, "Yup, glad you like it".

Meiqi could not believe it. Many years ago, when they were on the Master Class, Meiqi and Jiaqi had sung this exact song. In fact, they had versed each other in it because they were divided up by grade, and Jiaqi's age was right at the cutoff for the next group. Needless to say, Jiaqi had won that round. This song brought back many memories and reminded Meiqi of the beginning stages of when she started to work towards being an idol. Based on Jiaqi's reaction, it didn't seem like he remembered who she was, but maybe he remembered competing with this song on the show.

"What about you Meiqi, do you know this song", asked Karry.

She nodded. "I sang it a really long time ago on a show before I became a trainee". Jiaqi turned to her, "Wait, really? me too!". Jiaqi was about to ask her what show, but Karry went on to tell them to begin practicing. Practice with Jiaqi went much smoother than Chengxin, maybe because there was no physical contact needed.

Roy decided to give them some tips on how to sing the song better. "What do you think about when you hear this song". "Sadness, sorrow", Meiqi said. "Someone going through a tough time", she continued. "What about you", Roy asked turning to Jiaqi. "I actually think about hope, because it says 每当我找不到存在的意义 每当我迷失在黑夜里. 夜空中最亮的星 请指引我靠近你 (Whenever I am lost in darkness and fail to find the meaning of life. May the brightest star guide me towards you)". "I think even though this person is going through a hard time, there is someone in their life that is able to bring them out of the darkness. That's the brightest star that they're referring to".

"Yes, exactly. Even though this song is really sad, the person singing it is also trying to express to the one person that understands them, that they are the light in their life", said Roy. "When you guys are signing it, you guys need to imagine each other as that star in each other's life. Whether it's your eye contact, the emotions in your voice, the movements that you do on stage, you need to show that you are the support in each other's life."

Jiaqi and Meiqi nodded. Taking in the advice, they tried to sing it again. "It's a little better, but it still hasn't reached that level of emotion", commented Karry. "Jiaqi, I think you're almost there, but Meiqi I can't feel it yet". Roy chimed in. "Have you ever really liked someone and thought they were your everything?". Meiqi paused for a moment to think and then shook her head. She never really paid attention to boys; her attention had always been focused on practicing and debuting. If she seriously thought about it, the only person that she had interacted with, that left an impression on her all these years was Jiaqi.

"Hmmm well, that's going to be hard then. I really need you to focus on Jiaqi like he's that brightest star in your life".

"Don't worry, I'm going to make her fall in love with me, and then she'll be able to sing like that", Jiaqi jokingly said. They erupted into laughter, including Meiqi. "Well, good luck with that then. Jiayou!", Roy said.

They spent the rest of the day practicing until both of their voices were close to being hoarse. "Alright, that's it for today. Remember to drink lemon tea and keep your voice in good condition. I'll see you guys again tomorrow", Karry said, dismissing them.

As they were leaving, Jiaqi turned over to Meiqi. "Are you free tonight?". Meiqi nodded; it wasn't like she did anything else aside from practice. "Why?"

"Gonna bring you somewhere"

A/N: So Yaxuan is actually the one that sang this song many years ago and he performed it again last year. For the story's sake I used it for Jiaqi and Meiqi but if you guys wanna hear Yaxuan sing it, here's a clip!! He's grown so much 🥺
