The papers nestled in invitation,
The unseen words are a beacon,
And an irresistible temptation,
You just cannot wait to dive in,
New books smell of anticipation.
The pages are yellow, sepia toned,
You know each word of the stories,
Relive familiar adventures,
Standalone or part of series,
For books read many times over,
Carry fragrance of memories.
The inked words build fictitious worlds,
But to a reader they are real,
As the events slowly unfold,
Your heart and mind the story does steal,
That is the smell of a good book,
The essence of everything you feel.
