As we had the same discussion, I was thinking of my plan. If Wisingham would be waiting for our attack, hidden by shadow mages, we had a chance to take him by surprise. But some troops should be sacrificed for that.
"Why are you so sure?"
My brother didn't understand why I was convinced that Wisingham planned to take us by surprise.
"Because until now we never burned any of their villages, we took prisoners and didn't slaughter people who gave up their weapons."
"Ami is right, they know our beliefs. They know our principles. There's no guarantee they won't plan to use it against us," Emilia spoke.
"And if we only prepare one trap, we can be the ones getting caught," my brother agreed. "What do you propose, Ami?"
"I think we can let the first troop retire to lure them, then send a second troop to surround them and when they really show up, our third wave of attacks will be able to rip them to shreds. We can set traps all around the battlefield in advance."
"But if you're wrong, the first troops will be fighting alone, against their entire army. Many risk to die," Mika suddenly said.
"Yeah but if he's right we will lose the battle, I agree with his plan," said Joy.
"Alright. Who do we send to lead the first and second troops?"
Caleb was raising her hand and I grabbed instantly.
"Me," I said.
"Ami, if we follow your plan you'll be the most at risk... if we take the best mages and knights with us you'll be..."
"I know. I proposed this plan so I'll take the initiative and face the consequences." Caleb wanted to speak but I didn't let her.
"And Caleb needs to be in the third troop."
"But her protection is..."
"You will need protection too. So take her. I'm just a bait. You're the ones who will strike for real."
"Then I'll go with you", my brother said.
"No. You have to be out of the centre of the battlefield in case something goes wrong."
"Ami... I can't let you..."
"You don't trust me?"
He looked at me, surprised."Of course I do."
"Then trust me. And lastly, no one should attack Wisingham with light magic. It's useless against him."
I expected them to ask me where I got that information but they all just looked at me and nodded.
'This time, I will make it right.'
As I was walking back to my tent, I felt eyes on my back and just said "follow me".
We sat there and she didn't waste any time "speak".
I didn't know how to explain.
"I know what will happen and did what needs to be done to stop it. Now we have to stick to the plan."
"You... had a vision?"
"Something like that." I looked at her trustful eyes. She wasn't gonna ask anything else now that she felt that I'm not willing to talk. I took her hand and looked her in the eyes. Those eyes I was scared I'd never see again.
"Caleb..."
She felt my serious tone and her face focused.
"I... you have no idea what will happen to me if I lose you. You can't imagine. You..."
I took her in my arms, holding her so tight I thought I was gonna choke her. I buried my face and muffled my cries.
"What... did you see?"
"You died. You died, you idiot!" Noah took control. I suddenly took her face between my hands, held it so violently I almost scratched her skin. "Don't you dare do it again understand?" He was more vivid than ever before. "I'll never forgive you got it? DON'T YOU EVER DARE LEAVE ME!"
I broke in cries again, taking her ear against my chest.
"You hear this? You hear how it's beating? You have no idea what I've been through! You'll never know what you fucking did to me! You stupid idiot, how dare you!"
She got free from my grasp but I kept screaming like a lunatic. "I'll never forgive you if you ever die again! Don't you..."
A sudden kiss stopped my yelling. I was exhausted my throat was burning from all the shouting. I couldn't breathe properly and was shaking hysterically, I don't even know how she managed to keep our lips sealed.
As she let go, I managed to catch my breath. The people outside the tent must be thinking I'm crazy, shouting like a lunatic. What will they think about my brother because of me?
As I was thinking that, looking outside, she grabbed my chin and turned my face to her.
"I'm sorry", she just said, as I got lost in her eyes.
"You better be!"
She let out a chuckle. "Rest, now. You look terrible." As he stood up to leave I grabbed her hand again.
"Wisingham... don't ever cross his path. Don't ever confront him, got it?"
She nodded.
