Amelia

Maëva sat on her bed and I took a seat beside her, and she laid her head on my shoulder, crying all her pain out. I hugged her tightly, silently letting her know that I was there for her.

My heart ached as she cried. I knew what it felt like to be in so much pain that you can't really talk to let it out, and I didn't want her to be through the same. Being always in pain was similar to death but being not able to let it out was a pure torture.

"Maëva, talk to me! I'm right here, I will listen to you. Talk to me, please!" I whispered to her.

She slowly stopped her tears from flowing and only her sniffs could be heard. Part of me wanted to hear her out and help her but the other part was scared that her pain would be impossible to heal.

"I cannot allow myself to fall in love, Amelia! I don't deserve it!" she brokenly said.

I rubbed her back soothingly, my heart clenching at her words and I replied,

"Everyone deserves love and you're no exception, Maëva. You're so sweet and gentle and you deserve it!"

She suddenly lifted her head from my shoulder, wiping away her tears and retorted, her voice a mere whisper,

"No, I don't!"

"Why?" I softly asked, not even trying to mask my grief for her.

She looked at me, her eyes numb. She stood up and took out a photo frame from her drawer and handed it over to me. There was a beautiful woman with long dark brown hairs, similar as hers, standing beside a tall handsome man, completely dressed in black.

They were both smiling and in the woman's arms, was a cheerful little girl. Her eyes were filled with life and she was so beautiful, just like her mother.

"This is you, right?" I asked.

She nodded and sat beside me.

"This beautiful woman is my mother and this handsome man is my father," she said, tears flowing down her cheeks again.

"Take your time, Maëva!" I soothingly said.

She took a deep breath and then continued,

"My father died when I was five, a few days after this picture was taken. I barely have any memories of him but I always wish I could meet him. He was Kyle's father's second in command, and he lost his life while they went to help the Lebedev family,"

"Lebedev?"

"Yes, Jared and Ethan are also orphans. That's why, they live with us, they form part of the brotherhood,"

At the mention of the Lebedev attack, I started having a feeling of uneasiness, as if this attack sounded familiar to me, but I just couldn't bring myself to remember anything.

"I grew up with Kyle and Renzo and I was very happy with them, and my mom never let me miss my dad, she was always there for me. My mom and Laura used to take care of the house while Kyle's mother would take care of all the kids. Life was beautiful and it was even more beautiful when Laura gave birth to her first child. But..." her voice suddenly cracked on her last words.

A single drop of tear, trailing its way down my cheek as I listened to her.

"Laura didn't really enjoy her moments with her daughter. There was an attack and that night was the most painful night! I was sleeping soundly beside my mom, when we suddenly heard gunshots. I was frightened, and my mom hid me in the wardrobe. She told me to stay there while she would go to look for the others. I waited for her, but she wasn't there. All I could hear, were gunshots and her scream. She was screaming to let all the children go, but I couldn't understand anything. I wanted to go to her, but I was too scared,"
