Maëva
"Let me see your wounds, Maëva," Lucas softly whispered to me but I only shrugged at him.
I was in pain but not by the wounds inflicted to me. I was hurting inside, I just lost another special friend of mine today and another soul who mattered to me. I couldn't understand why life was so cruel to me, I lost almost all the persons I would give my life for, and this pain was much more than the bruises in my face and arms.
"Maëva, I know it's hard for you but I can't leave you like that!" Lucas muttered again and this time I turned to him.
"You should first check whether Kyle is okay. He threw himself out of a moving car, he's more hurt than me!" I blankly replied, pulling the bedsheet on my stomach while Lucas remaines seated on my bed, beside me.
"I already checked on him, he's physically fine. Few scars but he's fine, he's a tough guy who can handle pain! The one I'm worried for is you, Maëva!"
I looked at him, searching his eyes filled with something I wished I didn't understand. A year had already passed but his eyes still held the same longing he always had whenever he would look at me. I was not his and he was not mine, he deserved someone better than me, not broken. But he didn't seem like he was willing to understand that.
I sighed and finally let him examine me. He took my arms and treated each and every wound, taking all his precautions not to hurt me. I watched him and my heart ached.
"Why can't you forget me Lucas? Find someone else, please!"
He lifted his head and smiled.
"I just haven't found anyone who looked at me the way Kyle and Amelia look at each other or fight with me like you and Jared fight with each other, yet!"
"Do you envy our love?"
He was silent for a moment, his eyes on me and I wondered whether we could be friends again. After long seconds, he blinked and chuckled.
"I don't envy it. If you're happy, then I'm happy!"
"I am happy, Jared makes me happy!" I confessed and something flashed in his blue eyes. Regret.
"I'm glad he makes you happy. Also remember, I will always be here for you, no matter what!"
I was focused on his words, unsure of what he meant when suddenly a deep clearing of throat behind him, distracted us. He let go of my hands and we both turned our gaze to the man, leaning against the door frame, his eyes burning with jealousy and possessiveness as they fell on Lucas.
"Jared!" I softly called his name out and he looked at me.
"How are you feeling, Love?" he asked, walking inside the room, his hard eyes on Lucas.
Love? He never called me love before. The only names he gave me were chipmunk, beauty and sweetheart, and I loved them all but love was a word he never called me before and God, my heart fluttered when he said that. Part of me knew the real reason why he called me like that but I decided to enjoy it, even if it was meant to be only in front of Lucas.
He came to stand beside me and bent down, kissing me on my forehead.
"You already examined her?" he asked, his voice so cold sending a shiver down my spine.
Lucas nodded and I could feel the dangerous tension between them. I was sure that if I was not there, Jared would have already killed Lucas. Lucas turned to me and gave me a small smile.
"Take enough rest, Maëva! And remember, I will always be there for you!"
"Rest assured, Lucas! She will be fine, I can take great care of her! Thank you for your medical support, I can handle the rest! You may leave peacefully!"
