"We will bring her back, I promise," Hope said softly.
"But how?" Scott asked solemnly.
"With your quantum realm theory."
"How did you know about that?" He asked.
"As I said, I was at the memorial today, but what I didn't tell you was that I was following you." She admitted.
"Exactly how long were you following me for?"
"From the hospital to Avengers Headquarters." She said guiltily.
"So you heard everything I said, including my argument with them." He said.
"Yeah," She admitted.
"Then why did I hear you crying when I found you?"
"If I'm being completely honest, I was crying because I saw and heard what happened after they said no to your plan and because I realized how wrong I was to listen to that stupid voice. I heard a voice before I slipped into my coma. It said... You know what, it doesn't matter. But if I never listened, I wouldn't have gone into that coma, and you wouldn't have gotten stuck in the quantum realm for so long." She said looking down at her lap.
Scott stayed quiet, taking that in.
"This is my fault." She whispered.
"No, it's not." He said. He felt like it was his fault. The last thing he wanted was for her to feel guilty.
"I couldn't protect you and as much as I tried to, I failed. You got sick, you spent two years thinking I was dead, and that's on me."
Hope was about to reply but was interrupted by the sound of someone pounding on the front door. This was strange because as far as anyone knew, this house was abandoned.
"Get down," Scott said as the door was kicked down. His original plan was to shrink, but Hope signaled to him that her suit wasn't working for some reason.
The real panic started when they saw who had broken into the house.
It was none other than Natasha Romanoff.
How had she found them?
"No sign of him, as a matter of fact, it doesn't look like anyone has been here in a while." She said into her radio and then left.
"That's it," Scott said and got up. He had enough of this.
"What are you doing?" Hope asked, panic creeping in.
"I need to stop this." He said. "Just stay here." And then he followed Nat outside.
Hope knew what he meant. From what it looked like, Black Widow was getting ready to kidnap him again. And she knew that she couldn't mentally handle it if the Avenger succeeded. She looked through the window just in time to see Scott ambushed and a bag placed over his head.
"This can't be happening." She said, her heart pounding. "No! You made this mistake once and look at where it got you." She said to herself. She ran outside, wasp suit and helmet still on, and kicked Nat from behind, and took the bag off Scott's head.
"Steve, I could use a little back up here!" Nat yelled into her earpiece. Just then Steve came out of a van parked just a few feet away and grabbed Scott.
"Get him to the car and I'll handle this one," Nat said, walking towards Hope.
"I'd like to see you try," Hope said, making her intentions very clear. Scott still had his helmet on so they could still communicate through radio.
"Scott, I'll hold her off, but you got to get away from "Super Soldier" over there." She said fighting Nat.
"I can try, but just be careful." He replied.
"No promises." She said to herself. I mean, she was fighting a trained spy and assassin, who do you think is gonna win that battle?
She used all the fighting knowledge that she had picked up over the years, but it was barely enough. And then she got an idea.
She backed up and let Nat come to her. She even let her throw a few punches.
"What is she doing?" Scott asked himself while fighting Steve.
Natasha was asking herself the same thing. "It shouldn't be this easy. Should it?" She thought.
She had just seen her opponent fight extremely well and now she was just backing off? Hope had actually been studying Nat's fighting technique. It was a good plan, but she would need to act soon before Steve succeded and took Scott.
"Not yet....not yet... Now!" She told herself and then she unleashed all her energy into copying every move that Nat made.
The fight went on for another minute or two before Nat got annoyed. This should've been easy, who was this person?
She tried to flip Hope on her back but Hope anticipated the move and flipped it and Nat actually ended up on the ground.
"That's enough." She said as she got ready to fire her Widow's Bite. But it wasn't there!
"Looking for this?" Hope said, holding up her wrists that now had Nat's weapon on them. Then she fired them, much to the former wearer's shock.
"Who-ar-are-y-you?" Nat asked, electricity pulsing through her.
Hope flipped up her helmet to show her face.
"Hope van Dyne, nice to meet you."
And that's the last thing Black Widow heard before she passed out from her weapon. Oh, the irony.
"These things pack a punch." She said to herself.
Meanwhile, Scott was still fighting Steve and was getting concerned he might get taken again. But then, out of nowhere, the super-soldier collapsed.
"What the-" And then he saw Hope standing behind the fallen Captain America with a smug expression on her face. Almost as if she wanted to make them suffer. Well, he couldn't exactly blame her.
"How did you do that?" He asked her. Then she showed him her wrists.
"You took that from Black Widow and survived, I'm impressed." He said smiling.
Just like old times.
And then he saw that Nat was unconscious too.
"Nice work." He added.
"What are we gonna do with them?" Hope asked.
"There is one place we could go..." Scott said.
"Where?" She asked him.
"I'll tell you in a minute, let's just get these guys in the van." He said, taking the car keys from Steve.
