They arrived at the compound and were met by Bruce at the door. "Oh, hi Scott... and Hope?" He said questioningly. Scott gave him the "I'll explain later, stop talking about it" look and Bruce quickly changed his tone. "The team is in the conference room, we're still waiting on a few people." 

They went into the conference room and saw Tony, Nat, Steve, Clint, Nebula, and Rocket. "At least you guys showed up." Rocket said. "What do you mean?" 

"Rhodey was supposed to bring Thor here a half-hour ago, but we haven't heard from them," Nat said. "When you think of Thor's state of mind right now, they most likely stopped off at a local bar, and should be here soon." Rocket said. After thinking about it for a second, they all murmured in agreement. 

"Until they get here, how about we relax," Tony said. "Lord knows we need to. The best thing to do before any mission is to relax." He said, and with that, he got up and left the room. 

After waiting for a few seconds, they decided he wasn't coming back. Then the conference room turned into a fifth-grade classroom. 

(Do you remember how in school, when the teacher would leave the room, it was like every kid's volume was turned to 100?) 

Nat came up to Scott and Hope and asked, "Can I talk to Hope for a second? Okay, thanks!" Nat dragged Hope away and Hope asked, "What do you want to talk about?" "I know what happened at Tony's cabin." Hope groaned. "I don't know what Tony told you, but the truth is probably the exact opposite of what he said." 

"No, I saw the actual footage of what happened, and I wanted to thank you," Nat said. "Thank me? For what?"  

"For doing what I never could. Now when I see Tony, I don't see the smug guy I usually do, I see the moment when you slapped him in the face." Nat said, holding in her laughter. "It was pretty satisfying..." Hope said, recalling the moment smiling. 

"And I also wanted to talk to you about Scott. What's going on?" She asked. Over the past month, Hope and Nat had become close friends. Hope had never had a best friend, and neither had Nat. So the friendship was good for both of them. 

"What do you mean?" 

"I don't know, when you guys came in, you seemed kind of off." 

Hope sighed, "Last night, I had another attack and another nightmare." Nat was the only one besides Scott who knew about the attacks. "What was the nightmare about?" She asked. "Nothing in particular. I saw me and my dad arguing. I saw me and Scott fighting together...but what scared me the most was that I saw Scott, and he wasn't breathing. He was dead." Hope said shakily. 

Even talking about it didn't help. 

"They are just nightmares. They don't mean anything," Nat said comfortingly. "Yeah, yeah, you're right... but it's not just that. This morning, Scott told me that I couldn't go on the mission. I eventually convinced him to reconsider, but it still scared me. The thought of him going on the mission without me, without any reassurance that he would be safe....." She said, shaking her head. "You have to understand where he's coming from. He's just doing what he thinks is best." Nat said. 

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, Bruce was talking to Scott. "I thought we agreed that Hope wouldn't come." He said. "I know, but what if something happens to her while we're gone? Or if something happens to us on the mission?" Scott said. Steve and Clint walked over and joined the conversation. "What are you guys talking about?" Steve asked. "He's kidding, of course, we were eavesdropping the whole time," Clint said. 

"Really?" 

"He was eavesdropping... And I may have followed..." Steve admitted. 

"So, what's going on with Hope? Why wouldn't she come with us on the mission?" Clint asked. "We don't know how'd she'd react a second time," Bruce said. Steve and Clint understood what he meant, as they were both present during the test run. 

"We decided it was too risky, but now, Scott wants to let her come." He finished.
