Ch. 54: The Ride Back

You awoke at the sound of the birds chirping outside the balcony. Staring blankly at the white ceiling above the bed, as you listen to the muffled sound of the waves washing against the shore on the island.

You turn your head to look at the bedroom door, as Levi stands leaning against it looking at you laying on the bed.

"Good morning," you say.

"Morning," Levi says as he walks to the edge of the bed at sat down. His hand reaches over to you face, and brushes his finger through your hair. "Breakfast's ready," he says.

You carefully sit up on the bed, as Levi offers you his back to give you a piggyback.

"Carry me," you reach out both your arms to him. As Levi stands at the edge of the bed and scoop you up into his arms.

"As you wish," he whispers before planting a kiss on your forehead and carries you downstairs for breakfast.

After breakfast, he heated up the bath for you to clean up.

Then the both of you now fully dressed and packed ready to go back home.

On the train, going back to Trost....

Taking the afternoon ride back. You and Levi settle down in one of the sleeper train compartment with a bunk bed inside. You took the bottom bunk, while Levi lay on the top bunk. The two of you deicded to rest until dinner time.

You only took a nap, waking up at the sound of light footsteps near your bed. You open your eyes to see Levi drinking a cup of water as he looks out at the sunset seeping through the train window. He then pulls the curtains closed, as he glances over at you as you lay your hands on your pillow above your head with a relaxed sigh.

Levi pours another cup of water for you from the jug he had filled up with drinking water from Car 6, the dining car. Then he sits on the edge of your bed as he hands you the cup of water.

You pull yourself up to sit on the bed as you lean your back against the bed post behind you. Taking his offer in your hand and slowly drinks the water as you glance at him.

"Need anything else?" Levi asks, as he grabs the empty cup from your hand.

You nod.

"What is it?" he asks with a slight tilt of his head as he looks at you.

"You will need to follow every word I say, because I don't think I can walk properly today." you say as you narrow your eyes at him. Levi tries to cover up his slight smirk behind his hand.

"Was I too hard on you?" he asks.

"You were really hard," you say with a slight smirk on your lips.

"Sorry, you have to be specific. What was hard?" he asks as he puts the empty back on the small counter next to the water jug, and comes to sit on the edge of your bed once more.

You playfully slam your hand on his arm as he lay his head on your lap.

You gaze at his black locks, as you lightly brush your fingers through his hair.

Levi glances at you as you play with his hair as he speaks,
"How can I stop, when my wife says "ruin me" and "keep going" while moaning in my face, telling me "I'll break you in.." you quickly cup your hand over Levi's mouth, with a blush on your face.

"Please don't say it out loud," you look to the side as Levi glances at your blushing face. Levi cups his hand over your hand that is covering his mouth, pulling your hand down to let it lay on his chest.

"I will follow your every word," Levi says, as you look back at him laying relaxingly on your lap. Your fingers comes to stroke the side of his face, as you say "Whatever I say."

"Whatever you say, my wife. I'll follow your words not just today. But everyday," Levi says as he grabs your hand and place it on his heart, as if it was an oath, as he gazes into your eyes. You give him a warm smile as you feel his heart beating against the palm of your hand.

The train ride back always seems faster than when you went to your destination. Levi carries the two bags in his hand, as you walk beside him, looping your arm around his as the two of you step off the train and exit the train station.

There in the distance you can see can two lively people with child,waving their hands towards the both of you.

Your face light up at the sight of Sasha and Connie happily waving with Furlan excitedly bouncing up at down in Sasha's arms. For a moment you almost forgot about the pain you felt at your hips, as you got close, but your body stiffens as a jolt of pain run up your body. You slowly reach out your hands as if nothing happened. Sasha hands the excited little boy to his mom, with a slight bit of concern in her expression.

"Don't ask," Connie says interrupting Sasha's train of thoughts.

Furlan immediately squishes his chubby cheeks against the side of your head as he hugs you tight. "Mama!" he says and extends his hands out to Levi, as he says "Papa!" Levi immediately drops the bags in vis hands and goes to hold one of Furlan's hand as Levi ruffles his other hand on the top of his head, while Furlan continues to hug you tightly in your arms. You hig him back, and kisses him on his cheeks.

"We miss you so much," you say.

"I miss you too. Both mama and papa," he says as he lay his head on your shoulder.

"Sorry to interrupt the moment, But we'll be late for the welcome back party if we're still here," Connie speaks up.

Levi picks up the bags once more, as you continue to carry Furlan in your arms.

The welcome back party was held in Commander Erwin's office. Large enough to seat the Survey Corps members, as food and drinks were laid out on the long tables placed against the wall.

"Cheers!" everyone hold their glass of their preferred drink up in the air with a toast and downed it in one go. Furlan followed your movement, as he raise his glass of milk with great enthusiasm.

You sit back down next to Furlan, who stands next to your chair. Then you pick him up, for him to sit on your lap
"Slowly," you softly say with a chuckle, as Furlan quietly finishes his milk in continuous gulps.

Then he looks up at you with a cheeky smile, as he raises his empty glass of milk for the toast. You wipe his milk mustache up with a napkin and wrap your arms around him body. His back leans comfortably against you, as you embrace you with your warmth. Talking to him, and let him chat away about his adventures with his grown buddies while his parent were away.

Levi comes to sit on the armrest of your chair to listen to Furlan speaking about Aunt Hange, who would sometimes come to Sasha's place to tell him bedtime stories of the fun adventures she had. How Mike, Nanaba, Sasha, Connie, Jean, Mikasa, Eren and Armin. The whole lot of them would take some time together and take Furlan out on an adventure through towns, making up imaginary scenarios to live out their fantasies.

As the afternoon turn to night. Everyone begin to quiet down. Nanaba and Mike had left early to do some last errands. While the rest stayed and sat in chairs, that were now lined up in a irregular circle in front of Erwin's study desk.

Levi was sitting next to you, as you glance over at Levi with Furlan napping comfortably in his dad's arms.

"I've decided," you speak up, as everyone gives you their attention. "Commander Erwin, please allow me to stay by Furlan's side."

Commander Erwin glances at Levi with Furlan in his arms, then glances back at you, "So you want to leave the Survey Corps?" he asks.

"Yes, but.." you look him in the eyes, as you say, "of course I'll still be here if you need me in battles. I will keep training on my own. And.." you say as you glance at the sleeping Furlan, "I'll start to teach Furlan something too."

Silence takes the room as everyone became deep in thought.

Until Levi breaks the silence, "I have a proposal too, under one condition."
