Ch. 14: Someone

Back at the library, everyone was bummed out that they weren't able to capture anyone, or even get a glimpse of this mysterious man who was passing the note to the choir boy.

"Is that gruffy looking old man still in the cell?" Eren asks, looking around. Your eyes lite up, yes, the gruffy looking man that was held up, well protected by a padded cell.

Levi looks at Eren, "What are you trying to do, get him to talk?"

"We can try again." Eren says with confidence in his eyes.

Levi lingers his grey eyes on Eren for a few more seconds before giving his commands, " Eren, Mikasa, ____, the three of you follow me. The rest of you follow Hange, she'll give you instructions on what to do next."

Hange squeals a bit in excitement, as she was given the power of giving instructions, Sasha and Connie shudder a bit at the thought. As the three of you follow Levi out the library and walk silently toward the underground cell where the prisoner was held in.

As you walk pass the gate, a guard was there on watch to open the gate for you to walk in. The guard immediately shut the gate behind you, as you look back in a startle, feeling like you were the ones being locked up instead.

The clicking sound of your boots echoes with each step, covering your nose with you sleeve as a musty smell fills your nostrils as you walk further in. The four of you reaches an iron door. Levi unlocks it with the key that was given to him by the guards and walks in.

Inside cell, you could see that it was filled with pads of hay stacks lining up against the cold stone walls, some pieces broken or chewed out as if someone was trying to escape, but couldn't. In the middle, sits the gruffy man, looking at bit ruff with a plate of food still left untouched by the prisoner as he sits there with his legs and arms chained up.

Levi takes off his carvet as he kneels down beside the man, using the carvet as a glove to ungag the man from the piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth.

"Eat something, before we start." Levi says as he pushes the plate of food toward the man sitting on the hay padded floor.

The man doesn't move, as the three of you cadets watch in uncertainty of what to do, as the three of you kneel down in front of him as well.

When Levi unlocks the chains on the man's arm. That was when the gruffy looking man starts moving his arm a bit. You watch as he timidly reaches for the bread on the plate and starts nibbling on it like a mouse.

"Eren." Levi speaks up, as Eren looks over at his captain. Eren catches the chain of jail cell keys that was thrown at him. Eren looks a bit surprised at his superior as he holds the keys tightly in his hand.

"Hold these keys for me and wait outside with Mikasa." Levi looks over at you and continues, "____, you stay here and try to talk to him, after he finishes his food. If anything should happen I'll be right here."

You nod, as you watch the man eat and swallows hard with each bite. You scoot closer, as you see that the man is just eating and not drinking anything from the cup of water he was given.

Cautiously, you reach for the cup of water, holding it into your hand and lifts the cup up towards the man's hand still holding the almost finished bread.

The man stops chewing and even moving.

You couldn't see his eyes since they were covered by long uncamped strains of hair covering his eyes from any view.

Levi frowns and glances intently at the man with your kind gesture.

"Drink some, don't just eat." you say softly, but with caution.
