I was amazed when Jesse, for the first time since I started waitressing, was waitressing with me. Claudia was not coming so I had to fill in for her, and Elizabeth was coming later on. The restaurant was extra packed and we needed more hands. He was helping me out and I truly appreciated his help. After the food for the day was finished, we had to close if we had known, we could've ordered more stock but we never predicted it, if Miss Jane was here, she would've made sure that we had extra stock. Nevertheless, we had now known better and Jesse was going to do the right thing.
I was washing dishes and had told the chef to go home because I wanted to wash them alone. Surprisingly, washing the dishes was going peacefully well and I was eating it. The amount of dishes didn't matter, it was not having a guilty conscience of hanging out with Jesse. As much as I liked it when he was around, I didn't want trouble. Even though he provided a peace that came with him and he was helping me in different areas of my life, I couldn't ignore Claudia's advice.
"Hey," said a calm voice.
I looked back and saw Jesse.
Oh boy."Hi," I responded back as I tried not to pay any attention to him.
He started rinsing out the dishes and drying them. As much as I wanted him to stop, I didn't know how to tell him. I couldn't just push him away like that. "Today was a very long day," he said.
"Very," I sighed as I took another plate, "but I really appreciate you for helping me out."
•"I only did it because you couldn't do it alone, and also because I find pleasure in being by your side," he revealed as he smiled down at me.
Oooohh boooyy! I didn't even look up to him or bother respond. "How is your spirituality coming along?" He asked, concerned.
"Last time I told you that it was rocky, right? Well, I really think that it has improved. The books and songs you referred me to are really helping," I smiled up at him.
"What have you decided to do? Like if you get tired of waitressing."
I thought about that for a while and I still didn't have an answer. "I don't know, Jesse. I really don't."
"Well, we both know that a singer is not in the options above," we both laughed, "you're good at playing the guitar but that doesn't pay much. You're not qualified to be a teacher and even if you were, you wouldn't pursue it. What exactly do you enjoy doing?" He asked with no option left in mind.
"I know how to cook but not as much baking. I used to bake back in the day but I stopped when my father fell sick," I told him.
"You used to bake?" He asked, shocked.
I grabbed the last plate and faced him. "That's what I just told you. Why is it so hard to believe?" I asked, surprised.
He shook his head. "I don't know but I want a taste of what your hands can make."
"I might be rusty, though. It's been a while."
Right after that, Elizabeth walked in. "Hi Jey!" She said in a high pitched voice, as she walked over to him with a wide smile on her lips.
I knew that was my queue to leave as I dried my hands and left them both in the kitchen. To get a change of clothing is what I had done and just when I was about to leave, Jesse was waiting for me outside. In all honesty, I was startled. "Where's Elizabeth?" I asked, curious as to know why he wasn't with her.
"On her way home, I guess," he answered.
"Why are you still here?"
"Because I'm the one that closes the restaurant," he smiled as he did just that.
Stupidly, I didn't know why I was still standing there, as though I was waiting for him or anything. After he was done he turned back to me. "Well, today was really long," I said as I took backward steps, "will see you tomorrow, bye"
And when I thought I got off easy, I just lied to myself. "No!" He protested.
What did he mean by NO? I looked at him really confused, waiting for him to explain himself. "You cannot just disappear like that," he added.
"What?" I responded, totally lost.
"I wanted to take you out somewhere," he smiled.
I smiled back. "No," I replied as I shook my head at him.
"What do you mean no?"
"I don't know what your plan is --- but I am tired and I need to go home and rest."
He crossed his arms at his chest. "Alright, allow me give you a ride home."
Did I forget to mention that Jesse had his own car? Yeah, I also found out like two weeks ago. I never went in his car, though. It was a good-looking Mercedes. Very good-looking indeed...I just had to repeat that because I loved Mercedes.
I sighed as I looked around and noticed how hard he was really trying. If I decline, it would make me a bad guy since I had already turned him down to take me somewhere. At the same time, I wanted a ride home because my feet were killing me. Moreover, I needed to stay away from him. I sucked at it. "I'm only agreeing because my feet are killing me," I honestly spit out.
"What matters is that I drive you home and that's all I wanted no matter the reason," he joyfully opened the passenger door me.
"Would it be rude if I sit at the back?" I asked him.
"No ma'am," he answered as he closed the passenger door and opened the back door.
He reminded me of my father. I missed him.
It wasn't a long drive. Throughout the ride, I never imagined that his car would be that clean. As in, guys always had that empty bottle of beer or just something, you know. His car even shad his scent and his scent was mighty fine. Remember that I had mentioned that my house wasn't far, the drive took like five minutes. I opened the door and got out. "I can walk myself to the front door, thank you for the ride," I said to him as he rolled down his window.
"Pleasure. Just don't forget about our date," he revealed as he rolled up his window and drove off before I even got a chance to respond.
What just happened?
