28. FUNERAL

OSCAR'S POV

The funeral ceremony did not take much time, so around 8am we returned from the cemetery to the funeral home.

A few staff members from work, had left after the burial.

In the funeral home, I spotted Janice engrossed in a Convo with Lisa and Dave, her boyfriend. Did she really have to add salt to my injury by bringing him along? Why couldn't they not act like normal couples and not follow each other to events?
My heart burned, seeing her slender fingers laced with his, while they laughed heartily.

I made to take a different direction but I guess I wasn't quick enough, Janice waved me to come over. Reluctantly, I walked over to them.
"Hello, thank you for coming", I greeted Dave with a handshake, though in my head, I just wanted to kick his ass, everything about him annoyed me, though I couldn't deny that he was good looking, that he and Lisa looked good together.

But he still seemed to me like a dullard.

"My condolences, man", Dave sympathized, while he shook hands with me. I just wanted to squeeze his fingers crossed till they crushed.

"Thanks man...uh..may I steal her for a while, if you don't mind?" I asked asked, referring to Lisa.

"oh I do mind"Dave said.

I watched closely him, confused, "You know, she is was my employee before she's your girlfriend.." all three of them stared at me. .."oh, that was a very..bad joke, I'm kidding man"

Dave just chuckled, "...sure, and I can lend her to you only for a few minutes"

"Thanks man"

So we excused ourselves , walking side by side, "what was that?", Lisa asked

"I was just kidding..hey, I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable"

"it sure did"

"I'm sorry"
We walked towards group of three women, who were chatting and eating cake.

"That one in flats looks really like your mom"

"Yeah, that's my aunt" Her features were undeniably a replicate of my mother, round cheeks, small nose, very very tiny lips.

"You didn't tell me your aunt was coming?"

"Yeah, I'm sorry, you know how things happen a little fast"

She nodded."that's alright, I'm happy a family member finally showed up for you"

"Hi ladies" I greeted when we finally stopped before them

"Hi handsome" my Aunt's friend Rose slurred and smiled at me. I believe she was the slimmest person I had ever met, and honestly, her figure was on point, I prompted myself quickly before anyone could catch me checking her out.

"Uhh, ladies, meet my very good friend Lisa, Lisa, my Aunt Julie and her friends Danna and Rose", I introduced them

"oh, hi, the resemblance is undeniable", Lisa shook hands with Auntie Julie and the the other ladies.

"You're very pretty", Julie complimented

"Well, thank you"

"You never struck me as the.. You know, the black girl kinda guy",Rose said, smiling at me

"We......"

"Oh... we're just colleagues at work, I'm his employee, actually" Lisa interjected, before I could say anything

"That's nice, that's reeeaaalllllly nice" Rose smiled at me

"Lisa, join us" Danna offered, but she wasn't going to.
