LISA'S POV
I made to find my way back to the room where Rebecca was. She was still sound asleep so I closed the door quietly behind me. When I looked closer, she wasn't sleeping as soundly as I thought. She had creased her forehead in her sleep. I wondered if she was dreaming. Was she being chased in her dream, smothered, was she feeling pains even in her sleep?
I shook the dark thoughts off and chided myself in the head. The horror movies I loved to watch was making me dark headed, thinking the worst of every situation. No wonder I sometimes imagined myself sitting with my family, wherever they were, and then I would just smile. I mean, who found being with dead people amusing? Me, of course. Well because in my imaginations, they weren't dead at all. They seemed normal and fit, so I didn't have any problem being with them.
That's silly.
I took a seat on one of the chairs facing the bed. I sat my cup on my laps, still in my hand. I sent a text to Franka telling her I was so caught up with something, I couldn't make it to work. And even though I didn't straight off tell her where exactly I was, I knew my absence and Oscar's would give her a cause to wonder, considering the drama we pulled off at the car park, it was enough to make her think anything she wanted to think.
"Alright be safe, but Mr.Finer is absent too....just wanted you to know. I hope he's aware of your absence", she texted back.
In ScyleTech, information spread like wildfire. People liked to poke their noses into other's businesses and when you wouldn't tell them anything, they would rush to get into the elevator with you, walk closely around you and even stare at you while you walked through the hallway, as if your attire gave some answers to their questions.
There was a knock on the door and then it opened silently. A doctor walked in and smiled faintly at me. "Seems we haven't met yet, have we"
"No, no, we haven't, I'm Lisa"
"Damian, Dr.Damian, people call me DD", he laughed
"Oh, I see"
"Yeah...I love your hair". I loved my sleek updo myself, it was a whole vibe. I thanked him. "But I need to see Mr.Finer"
"He had to go home for a little while, he'll be back soon"
"Right, please let him know I need to see him when he gets back"
"I'll do that"
"Alright.... But are you family?"
"A friend"
"Right", and then he left the room.
I retook my seat and just took in all of appearance of the woman who was laying down before me. She was so ashen, as though she was already..... dead? I shivered lightly and goosebumps climbed the walls my dark brown skin. Just then I began to imagine her laying down as stiff as a board, while surrounded by familiar faces, in a funeral home, covered in wreath, of many colours.
I shut my eyes and shook my head in apprehension.
She stirred, and then layed still, and then stirred again. Her eyes fluttered open and instead of cringing at the sight of a stranger in her hospital room, who was probably about to smother her to death, her forehead straightened.
"Lisa?"
Okay, she knew my name? That's a wonder. How was that even possible, we hadn't met, ever.
"Uh.. hi"
She smiled and I returned it. "I'm-- glad--"...cough cough..."to finally--finally meet you"
"Yeah, me too"
"I love that portrait---of yours". A portrait of me? Nah, bitch was creeping me out. Maybe she mistook me for another person. I for sure looked like my sister Lizzy, who she didn't know, also, I possibly look like many other millions across the world. So..
