"I miss her." Luke mumbled quietly, his grip tightening slightly on my hand.

I looked at him sadly, swaying our hands just a little, "We don't have to stay much longer." I murmured as he looked at me. His eyes looked like they were welling up with tears.

Lukes shoulders shrugged and I looked back towards the stone in front of us. Liz's name was engraved in it and in front of it were a set of roses that Luke had brought to put down. We'd been here for maybe a little more than five minutes.

"I need to tell you something." He mumbled suddenly, swaying our hands slightly. I looked at him and furrowed my eyebrows, confused. "What?"

Luke sighed before breaking out into a shy smile, "I forgot my wallet."

I snorted slightly, wacking his arm with my free hand quickly, "You ass, I was scared you were gonna say something else." I groaned, laughing silently at him. He was grinning now, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

After our smiles faded, both of us glanced back at the stone in front of us.

"Should we go?" I asked in a light hum, staring sadly at the roses in front.

Lukes head nodded slightly and turned away from where we were standing, guiding us down the rows.

We got in the car and before Luke had time to start it, I turned to him. "I think I should go home for a few minutes, Luke."

Luke looked confused, his eyebrows were raised and his eyes were scanning my face as if to check if I was serious. I usually wouldn't just say that, given the relationship between me and my Mom.

"Okay.. now? We can go now, and just get my wallet after or something- if you still want to go out."

I smiled softly, nodding, "Of course I do. I just.. I need to just talk to my Mom. If she's there."

Luke nodded, a look of confusion still displayed on his face. We didn't say much but the radio was on and every so often we'd hum the lyrics together and mumble a few words.

"I'll be right back, okay? Just a few minutes." I told Luke quickly, leaning over the console and giving his cheek a light kiss. He blushed and nodded as I got out, hesitantly walking to the door.

When I knocked, the door took a few seconds to open but when it did, I saw my Mom standing there. She only smiled as if I wasn't important and hadn't been gone for almost a month. I almost regretted showing up to talk to her in the first place.

"Jenna, where have you been?" She asked finally, her eyes never leaving mine.

I cleared my throat, glancing back to Lukes car. I could see him swiping his thumb across his phone screen, singing along to a song. "A friends place." I sighed, looking back at her, "I'm sorry for leaving. I never told you."

"You never tell me anything anymore, Jenna." She murmured, crossing her arms over her chest. For a second, she looked hurt.

I bit my lip harshly, nodding at her statement, "I just.." I paused, running a hand through my hair and sighing. I didn't even know what to say. "I felt bad for acting like this all year, and especially since you've been back."

"I wasn't exactly the best either." She admitted, glancing over my shoulder and then back to me, "I'm sorry. I never see you around anymore because of how I was."

I don't think either of us knew what to say, but I think we both just wanted to get it over with. I'd been wanting to fix the situation between the two of us for so long and this was the all progress we would need to make- I just needed us to apologize. I had to hear her say she was sorry.

After a few seconds of silence, we both reached out for a hug. We stayed there for a little, holding each other. It felt like when that happened, we never had any issues. I don't think I've hugged her in more than nine months.

"I was worried, you know. The whole time you were gone. I didn't know where you were." She sighed into my shoulder, rubbing my back in a motherly way, "I didn't know how I could've gotten ahold of you, and if I did, we would've just fought."

I didn't say anything then. I didn't know what to say to that, so I just gave her a quick squeeze before letting go of her.

As we pulled away from each other, my Moms eyes looked back towards the car behind the both of us. "Who is that? Is that who you've been staying with?" She asked, squinting slightly.

I nodded shyly, glancing back for a second, "His name's Luke. I think- I think you'd like him." I paused, blushing, "I mean, it'd suck if you didn't because- I really like him."

When I said that, I couldn't help but wonder if Luke had said that to his mom about me.

Suddenly, a grin broke out on her face, "Well, why don't you go and get him, then? We can have dinner together, just the three of us."

I turned again, looking at Luke in the front seat of the car. At the same time, he looked at me and smiled.

"I'll go ask him if he wants to. We were supposed to go out tonight but.. I guess he forgot his wallet." I mumbled, turning quickly on my heel and rushing down the path back to the car.

Lukes eyebrows were raised at me as I cleared my throat, suddenly nervous about the whole meeting-my-parents thing.

"Do you want to stay here for dinner? I guess she wants to meet you," I spoke through the half-open window, "We don't have to. We can go out some other time."

Going out for dinner never seemed to go to plan for us. It probably never will.

Luke searched my face as if looking for a sign that I was joking, which I kind of wished I was. After a few seconds, he nodded hesitantly before he got out of the car.
