When I woke up, the room was dark. It must have been pretty early, or I slept through the whole day. I felt someone shift under me and a slight movement above my shoulder blades. Just then I remembered I had fallen asleep with Luke, nuzzled into his neck with our legs tangled under the sheets.
"Luke," I whispered in the darkness, squinting as I looked up at where I assumed his head would be, "Are you awake?"
He let out a soft hum as an answer, and played with the end of my hair that fell over my back.
I smiled and shifted, causing him to let go but still have his arm looped around my waist loosely, "How do you feel?"
"Horrible," He croaked, his voice dry and raw. I sighed, sitting up in the middle of the bed and rubbing my eyes. I glanced over at the digital clock that Luke had on his bedside table, which made me bite my lip.
2:37 am, it read.
I wanted to see his face, but I knew that if I turned the light on; it wouldn't be so good on his end. He's just woken up with a hangover, and I haven't really looked at him but his voice was enough evidence that he probably felt like shit.
I went to lay down with him again, but he arched his back uncomfortably and sat up hastily, his hand clapping over his mouth.
I panicked, because I knew what was happening, I just didn't know what to do. I'd never had to deal with anyone with a hangover except my mom on the nights she came home late, but she always walked herself to the bathroom.
I shook myself from my thoughts and wrapped an arm around Luke's upper body and he helped by shuffling off the bed with an arm around my neck.
We both walked quickly into the hall, him stumbling more as I ushered him into the bathroom. I flicked the light on, immediately feeling bad by the way Luke groaned behind his palm.
He dropped to his knees in front of the toilet and gripped the sides of the bowl. Then, I turned my head, unable to watch what I began hearing.
The sounds he was making stopped and I heard the toilet flush, to which I then turned back to him. Luke was trying to stand, and he eventually did by gripping the ledge of the sink.
I moved closer to him, pressing a hand gently on his back to help him keep his balance as he washed his mouth and face.
"Sorry," Luke mumbled, drying his face with the shirt he was wearing.
"Don't be," I said softly, rubbing his back lightly, "You got nothing to be sorry for, Music note."
He only shrugged and looked down at me, a weak smile on his face. This was the first good look I got of him in the light, and his eyes seemed dull and his skin pale, though he usually was. His lips were lightly shaded pink and they looked dry.
"Come on, let's get you back into bed." I murmured and shut the light off before pressing a hand against his back as we both shuffled to his room in the dark.
Luke paused as he sat on the bed, letting out a sigh.
I could barely see him, but the moonlight that had begun coming in through the cracks of the blinds, strung over Luke's window, was enough for me to see that he'd begun tugging off his tshirt.
"Are you going to lay with me?" He asked me under his breath after laying down, shifting into the spot he had woken from.
"Yeah," I breathed, crawling onto the bed and pulling the covers over our bodies. The smell of alcohol bothered me, but I tried my hardest to ignore it as Luke pulled me closer into his bare chest.
I had my hand placed in the middle of his torso, lightly running my palm over his stomach that raised with every breath.
"Thank you."
My head snapped up at his voice, my eye brows furrowing in confusion, "For what?"
Luke's shoulders shrugged, his arm wrapped tightly around my waist. It was quiet for a bit, and all that was heard was our breathing but even then my thoughts were louder.
I was glad that me and Luke were close like this, really. I would say I wanted us to be closer, but I don't think there is any way for us to be any closer.
After a few more minutes, I had thought Luke fell asleep. His arm loosened, his fingertips lightly resting on my hip but after awhile, he spoke up again.
"Jem," He whispered, rolling onto his side, causing me to move with him. I didn't let go, I just held on tighter.
"This Friday night, can I take you out?"
His voice was still quiet, almost inaudible, but he spoke with no hesitation.
I just laid there, unable to let myself answer. Luke's arm shifted, his fingers now playing on the pale skin of my hip since my shirt had moved around from when he turned onto his side.
"Are you awake, Jem?"
"Yes," I said quickly, nuzzling my head into the crook of his neck, "To both of those questions."
