Chapter 36
I still wasn’t sure how long I had been in this prison, but I was betting on a few days. It has been hours since that cruel man left, and I still haven’t stopped watching my arm…. It was completely healed. I could even move it! The arm that had once felt as if utterly limp and useless was now able move like it was brand new!
“Impossible.” I said to myself, scrutinizing it as if it wasn’t a part of my own body. “Impossible.”
“You’re not hallucinating.” I slowly looked up, and my eyes met that of my fellow prisoner.
“This is impossible.” I flailed my arm in front of me as if to show him, “This is impossible!”
“Be quiet.” Caleb shook his head at me, and I narrowed my eyes at him. “Just shut your mouth, Luna.”
I huffed, crossing my arms over my naked chest. For some reason, I didn’t feel embarrassed that I was naked in front of him. I also wasn’t fazed that he was just as free as I was. I’m getting too comfy here, I thought at the exact same time my stomach growled. Gosh how embarrassing! When is the food coming?!
Caleb laughed at me, “They’re not coming.” My eyes widened and my stomach dropped. “Just take some of that plant.” He pointed to just in front of me.
I looked down. “That’s a plant?! Looks like mold!” My face screwed up in disgust and I flinched away from it. “Gross!”
Caleb snorted, “This isn’t some game, Luna. Nobody is coming down here. They’re not going to bring a buffet of food for us to eat. They’re not even going to bring a tray of disgusting gruel!”
I bit my lip and looked at the plant again. It was some sort of cross between a type of cauliflower and a type of mold or mushroom. It was as small as a piece of broccoli, and it was easy enough to miss on the dark grey stone floor. The thing that was really making me gag, though, was the color… black. I can’t eat that! I felt the bile rise in my throat and I gulped.
“No way, Caleb!” I shook my head, “I’m waiting.”
Caleb sighed, “Did I say that they will be coming to feed us? No, they won’t. You eat it or you wait until you die of starvation.”
A pained noise escaped me, and I looked from the plant back to Caleb. I sucked in a breath, thinking over my options. But after examining that plant once more, I said; “No.”
He looked away.

“You lying bitch!” My head snapped up in alarm as a very menacing voice accompanied the sound of pounding footsteps.
The chains clanked noisily as I tried to push myself as far away from the cell bars as possible. In my mind, it was a frenzy of frightening thoughts. I opened my mouth in an almost-scream when the cells door was opened by a shockingly fast shadow. He was quick as a flash, and the door was violently ripped open in two seconds flat.
The next thing I knew, I was no longer on the ground, and I was held by my throat. I choked in surprise, and my hands flew up to the hand at my throat. My eyes regretfully met that of my attacker, and I knew something was about to go down. I kicked my legs at him, and right after one successful hit I was thrown against the wall. The breath was literally knocked out of me, and I crashed down onto the stone floor.
“What the heck, dude!” I bravely spat at him, though I felt no wisp of courage.
“Tell me who the witch is!” He spat right back, “Tell me and no one gets hurt.”
