Chapter 12
“Curling Iron” Christina held her hand out, acting like one of those doctors working on a patient. Unfortunately, her little show didn’t go as she planned.
“Um…” Harmony searched, “Will Hair curlers be okay? I can’t find a curling iron.”
Christina let out a sigh, “Fine, are they the ones that heat up? Yeah? Ok plug them in.”
10 minutes later I looked like a freak, curlers sticking out from my head. I sighed, 2 hours until my date with Nate.
I had originally planned on just going, no preparations or anything, but Christina and Harmony were appalled at the thought. They brought me to my house, and they were now smiling bubbles of positive energy.
“Eyeshadow.” She tried the doctor voice again, but yet again, her show failed.
“Where’s the eyeshadow again?” Harmony scratched her head, and Christina gave her a look that said ‘you are the worst assistant ever’.
“Right next to you.” Christina’s eye twitched, “NOT THERE, in the bag!”
Harmony gave a sheepish grin before rummaging through the little bag, finally surfacing with what Christina needed.
Christina let out a huff, and instructed me to close my eyes. I could have been lulled to sleep by the soft and rhythmic brushing, but was too tense to even think about it.
All of this for one little date.
But it was my first date too.
Now I wasn’t sure if I wanted to have another one ever again! These women were crazy! ALL OF THIS FOR ONE DATE!? What? Were we going to walk on the red carpet!?
I was brought out of my thoughts by Christina’s doctor voice, “Blush.”
Silence.
“OH JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN BAG, HARMONY!!!” Christina shouted, and I opened my eyes to see Christina turning red. Literally.
Harmony flushed, chucking the bag at Christina as if it was on fire.
Christina caught it effortlessly with one hand before angrily rummaging through her little bag. She was practically breathing fire, her face as red as a tomato, as she searched and searched.
“WHERE IS IT!?!?!” She stomped her foot, throwing a tantrum, “WHERE THE HELL IS THE DAMN—”
“Is it the one on the counter in front of you?” I pointed at it in a small voice.
Christina clenched her hands into fists so tight her knuckles turned white, she tilted her head to the ceiling, and I could swear steam was coming out of her ears.
Note to self. That chick is scary, avoid her anger at all costs.
A tiny glimmer or shimmer of light instinctively made me look in its direction. My eyes landed on Christina’s left hand, and I forgot how to breathe.
I saw the ring, in the exact place as it had been yesterday. It looked to be made of pure gold, and diamonds sparkled in the light. I stared at it for who knows how long, before a thought began nagging at the back of my head.
“Is that a…” I trailed off as Harmony shook her head vigorously.
Then, it was like Christina had read my mind, and she covered it with her other hand. She brought her hands up to her lips, and refused to look at Harmony and I.
God, is she ok?
As if she knew what I was thinking she snapped her head towards me with a ginormous fake smile plastered on her face. She spoke through her teeth, “I’m perfectly fine!”
