**I've dedicated this chapter to BlueSpectrum for kindly making me a cover for this book! :) Too bad, though, she seemed to have deleted her account :(**

Chapter 2

“I’ve been sleeping way too much!” I groaned, putting both hands to my head and rubbing my temples with a sigh.

“You’re tired, you should sleep when you’re tired.” My mom said matter-of-factly, hands on the wheel and eyes locked onto the road.

“They don’t let you do that in school…” I said under my breath, crossing my arms over my chest.

“They used to though.” She pointed out, somehow having heard me, “In Kindergarten and Pre-K.”

                “Eh.” Was my response.

I settled for watching the landscape through the windows. Knowing that the city lights had disappeared a while ago, and that we were the only people on the road.  “I wish you could have told me we were going to have another hour drive.” I spoke once more.

“You never asked me, dear” Was my answer, making me sigh.

This is so booooooorrrriiiiiiiiiiiinnnng, I whined to myself. Nothing had even happened yet! I don’t know what I expected once I stepped out of the plane. My dad? My little 13 year-old sister Tara? God? THE POPE???

All I got though was a bustling airport filled with impatient people, crying children, elderly, and couples on either honeymoons or vacations. It was definitely not the ‘good’ future I was foretold, but at least it wasn’t too ‘bad’.

I thought that we would go straight to our new house from there, but apparently it was too late to start driving… so we booked a hotel for the night. I seriously believe that mom’s nervous, but why? I don’t even know! She seems to be having mood swings, one minute bouncing off the walls (As much as an adult could) about finally going back to her old home, and then chomping at the bit in nervousness of something she won’t talk about.

“We don’t have too much longer my dear; we’ll see it any minute now.” My mom said with a smile evident in the tone of her voice, all traces of nervousness disappeared.

Finally! I sat up straighter in my seat. Something is actually gonna happen!

I was up in my brand new room, unpacking my clothes into my new walk-in closet when the action finally started.

Cries of joy and greeting echoed up the stairs and sounded in my ears. I knew one voice to be my mother.

I started down the stairs, stopping at the end where I was still hidden by the wall on the side. I tuned into their conversation, trying to find the perfect time to make my entrance.

“Oh Delilah! It’s been so many years!” a woman’s voice practically squealed.

                Delilah? That’s my mom!

“Indeed.” A deep voice joined in, unmistakably male “So glad to finally see you back home. I hope you liked the house?”
