Chapter 32
And then it was Homecoming.
“Oh you’ll just love it, Luna!” Christina gushed, more excited than she had looked to be in a month. “It’s such a beautiful jade green color! It has sequined circles on the whole entire dress and oh my god I’m in love with that dress! You know what’s the best part, Luna?” She waited a second before answering anyway, “It has a sweetheart neckline! Oh, and since it is the Homecoming dance, the dress goes to about mid-thigh…” Christina prattled on and on.
“Um… You know I could have bought my own dress…” I pouted, “You didn’t have to buy it for me…”
“… And it kind of reminds me of your eyes!” Christina smiled happily, shutting her eyes in contentment as she tilted her head to the side with her clasped hands acting like a resting place for her head. She sighed a dreamy sigh, “Oh I just love fashion!” She seemed to not have heard me, and I shook my head fondly at her.
I shared a look with my other best friend, Harmony, and I giggled. Harmony adjusted herself until she was sitting criss-cross applesauce, or Indian style, on Christina’s bed.
“Hm… Are you gonna show her or what, Christy?” Harmony teased, seeming as happy as I was to see Christina this ecstatic.
“Oh!” Christina’s eyes widened with realization, “Oh yeah! I forgot…” She blushed a light pink, and it took all I had not to coo at how adorable she was acting. “I’ll get it!” She made it from one side of the room to her walk-in closet in a blink of an eye.
“So, Harmony…” I started, but then Christina appeared right in front of me with one of the prettiest dresses I had ever seen. “Christina!” I gasped, reaching my hands out tentatively to feel the silky fabric. “It’s… It’s… No, I can’t take this!” I released my hold on the dress, starting to back away. But then I stopped when I saw her eyes. “No… Christina!” My resolve wavered as I saw how heartbroken she looked. “I… Okay!”
“Yes!” She squealed, “Oh! Harmony!” Christina almost shoved my dress at me, “You’ll love what I got for you too! It’s this beautiful brown color, well, two different shades but whatever. It has the sweetheart neckline too, and the whole top half to below your bust it has dark golden-brown sequins—and—and there is this satiny belt with a huge flower in the middle! Below the belt is the flowy, light milk chocolate, leopard-print material that flows to about your knees! Oh my gosh I love that dress so much, too!” She zipped back over to her closet and was back before I could count to three.
“But I already have a dress—” Harmony’s sentence was cut off when Christina threw the dress in Harmony’s face, obviously not caring if the dress possibly got wrinkled.
“Oh my goodness I forgot to tell you about my own dress!” Christina’s hands flew up to her cheeks in surprise, “It’s so beautiful too! Oh my lord it’s completely white, and it has a sweetheart neckline like yours do! Um, um, it has really pretty and intricate swirls and stuff that make it look almost like a wedding dress at the top. It’s only part of the top, and from about the top of the waist to the knee it is this really flowy, poofy material—wait, not poofy but yeah! It’s like so pretty and—wait, maybe I should show you guys!” She zipped to her closet, reappearing before us in record time and showing off the dress.
“Wow!” I gasped, “That is so pretty! Try it on! Try it on!”
“Maybe we should all try them on?” Harmony was smoothing her hair with her fingertips, “You know that we don’t have too much longer before the boys show up right?”
“Right!” Christina beamed, “Oh my gosh, this will be so much fun!”

It was almost breathtaking to see the dress on me. At first, I had been worrying over the possibility that it wouldn’t fit, but after finally trying it on… Wow. I couldn’t help looking at myself in the full-length mirror one more time, turning this way and that to get the full picture.
